microdermal implants -
November 5th 2011, 11:06 PM
So, I've been thinking for awhile about getting an implant on my thumb webbing (top of hand b/w pointer finger and thumb). I originally wanted a piercing, but researched it and saw that they have a HUGE frequency of rejection. Have any of y'all had a microdermal implant before? I'm ok with the pain, but I'm just wondering if it turns out well, or gets snags or anything.
Do y'all think this would be a good or bad idea to get? God, grant the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know that difference.

Microdermals can reject too. You're putting something foreign in your body, so there's always the chance of it getting rejected. Certain jobs may not like it either.

Very bad idea, if you can even find a piercer to do a single-point piercing there. They are always bad ideas on the hands, wrists, etc. You will snag it all the time. Our piercer always tries to talk people out of getting them done there because of the probability of snagging it and ripping it out is so high.
There is always a chance of rejection when it comes to any piercing. They don't necessarily have a huge chance of rejection (no more than any other piercing). I've had mine for quite a while with no issues at all. The only people I know that have had problems with it are because of the piercer they went to and how it was performed. **Just to clarify a few things (one of my pet peeves, comes with being in the industry): The procedure is called a single-point piercing, not an implant, even though quite a few people refer to it as that. The difference between the two is the difference of it being legal or illegal in states. Implant means medical procedure and illegal for it to be performed by anyone other than a doctor (this also goes with how it's performed; needle vs a biopsy punch). Tennessee recently made performing this illegal because of the terminology; which is a major reason we're urging people to start calling it what it is. The jewelry is what's called a dermal anchor. Not trying to be bitchy, just informative, so please don't take it that way!

Hey there! Thank you for the advice. I've just always really wanted some sort of piercing on my hand, but y'all are right, it would be a bad idea. Sorry I called it the wrong thing! I'm glad I know what it actually is though. It's crazy how word choice can mean so much legally.
Btw, where do you have your single-point piercing? God, grant the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know that difference.

Oh my gosh that is wonderful. You are beautiful! Do you have any ideas where I could get one? I'd been set on my hand for so long, but was really hesitant and now realize it's a bad location. I'm not brave enough for my face, but I really don't know where else. Maybe that means I shouldn't get one at the moment. I just love them so much

You could get one on your chest, my english teacher has a sternum piercing. However it could also get caught on shirts. I think it would be okay however as long as your careful.
You could also get them on your hips (I find these cute) or the nape of your neck. ![]() Buddy|Live Help Operator|HelpLink Mentor|Social Networking Team Relationships&Dating Mod|Lifestyle Mod|Media&Entertainment Mod Performance Committee |

Thank you very much! You could get them around your collar bone or sternum. I also know people who have gotten them more towards their cleavage or in their cleavage. You will still probably snag them once or twice but not nearly as much as you would as on your hand. I know I've snagged the one on my face a few times either pulling my hair away from my face so my fingernails snag it or my hair does. No matter where it's placed you'll snag it at least once or twice but some locations just more often than others. As for getting them on your hips, I wouldn't exactly recommend getting them there because of both the pants and shirt hitting the area but it's up to you!
I would recommend waiting until you're certain of where you want it that way you don't go spend the money only to have to get it removed not long after because you don't like placement. You know? One thing about getting them on the face, is your place of employment/career path. Be certain that if you get it in a visible location your employer/future career will allow it to be visible. Single-point piercings will continue to remain around as long as states keep them legal so you have time!
