SEPTUM! - January 13th 2012, 04:28 PM

So, I finally got my septum pierced and have to keep it flipped up for school and around my parents. Is it okay to flip it down once a day and then up again to clean it? I just need to know if it'll hinder the healing process or whether that's what you're actually supposed to do!

I have never had any piercings, but it sounds like you really enjoy the fact that you got it. Congratulations!

From what I've read, you need to pick a position and leave it so the process of healing can begin. Flipping it up and down constantly will just re-new the healing process every time. Leaving it flipped up is probably your best bet for now, since you need to hide it at school and from your parents. Leaving it up can also hurry the healing process along. Once it's done healing, you can flip it up and down.

Shannon is right, you shouldn't be messing with it too much for the first couple of weeks, after a month or so feel free to flip it up and down as long as it's completely healed. (you'll know if it's no longer tender, or if there isn't a bump by the piercing) The only times you should be moving it is when you're cleaning it.

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

Definitely keep it up. Not only will this help it heal since it isn't getting moved around as much, it will stay protected from getting bumped. I would just use a Q-tip and some sea salt water to clean it. It just might look funny when you do so though xD
But congrats on getting it done! I'm sure it looks awesome

I used to have mine done with a bar then after healing a ring. The bar was curved and I generally left it alone to heal. It's a decent piercing if you are brave enough - I ended up disliking it on me though and took it out today. Hope you enjoy it!

You should at least for the first two weeks just keep it flipped up. If you continue to flip it up and down it can heal oddly and be a little off centered. I got mine done and have to flip it up for work, school, and around family. Then after I was done with school and after my mom stopped caring. I only have to flip it up for work. But give it at least two weeks in one position. You can still clean it when it is flipped up. And I agree with stated above, you should post pictures ^-^
