Parent's don't seem very supportive (Ear lobe piercing) -
January 22nd 2012, 02:48 PM
So about a year ago, my parents were discussing getting my earlobes pierced, my dad was fine with it, supportive even, but my mum didn't want me to do it because she had a bad experience with it (I think she was allergic to a certain metal)
back in December, my mum and I discussed getting pierced for my 14th birthday (next February) She was fine with it, so we decided to do it. about three hours ago, I mentioned that I had researched a few places to get it done and my dad suddenly didn't seem supportive, I don't even know, he's an annoyingly vague person. He said that we'd discuss it some other time because they were just about to go out. he really doesn't like anything that includes me and fashion, it took me three months to convince him to let me wear makeup, and yet he goes out and buys creased jackets in the name of fashion that both me and mum don't like, it's controversial and confusing, any advice? I know he's just trying to protect me, but i've researched as much as I can about piercings, the risk of infection, cleaning ect. so I doubt things will go wrong. |

Ear lobe piercings are very simple and basic. They hardly ever get infected unless you find you are allergic to a type of metal. They heal up quickly and are very easy to take care of.
My advice is to see if they are willing to actually go to a piercing place and talk to the piercer there about it, I'm sure they could give your parents some peace of mind. If they won't go, then find some articles about ear lobe piercings that are positive, and show those to them. Ear lobe piercings are very popular because of how low maintenance they are, but how cute they are. ![]() Buddy|Live Help Operator|HelpLink Mentor|Social Networking Team Relationships&Dating Mod|Lifestyle Mod|Media&Entertainment Mod Performance Committee |

I had a similar problem. My mom wouldn't let me get mine pierced till I was 16. Eventually I got tired of waiting and just pierced them myself at 12. Yelled at me, I took them out. Then finally after a lot of begging and convincing and threatening to do it again she let me get them done at 13. I would just recommend stating your facts and findings to your dad and show that you know what you're doing and there isn't really a risk in getting it done. =P good luck!

Thanks for your support~! I think I'll wait until it's closer to my birthday and see if they bring it up again, if not, I guess I'll suggest it sometime or wait until my next birthday ^^
I'm also going to research a bit more so I'm ready to answer any questions they might throw at me xD Wish me luck! |
