I "paid for my friends." -
November 14th 2011, 01:16 PM
I'm really excited and kinda proud of myself. I'm a college freshman and I go to a school that is HUGE on fraternity life and a little on sororities. Though it's a lot different than most places you hear about, being both a school in the North and a tech school. 30 fraternities and 5 sororities with 1/3 men going Greek and like... 1/5 women? I dunno. Something like that.
Anyways, my first few weeks I went through formal recruitment and got a bid from my top sorority. I've spent the past two months in the pledging process, and we had our pre-initiation week this past week. SO much fun, but really rough. I spent a lot of time with my sisters and pledge class doing stuff I can't talk about ... I think this is the one situation where I can say secrets DO make friends! ![]() But I am SUPER HAPPY because I was initiated on Saturday meaning I became a full member! I get to wear stitched Greek letters... PROBABLY the part I'm most pumped for. I have five sets already, because we all got "house letters" (everyone in the house has them), then everyone's big sisters made them three sets, and my big made me an extra set on top of that. I have... - purple and white polka dots backed in white on a black hoodie - pink and orange Lilly Pulitzer fabric backed in orange on a light pink crew neck sweatshirt (FAVORITE) - Vera Bradley letters backed in aqua on a white t-shirt - zebra letters backed in sparkly black on an aqua t-shirt I'm so excited to start making my own stitched shirts and wearing them around campus! I feel like joining the sorority I did was a great decision. A lot of people hate the whole Greek system but at my school it's... really different. From day one I had so much support and love from all of the initiated sisters and my pledge sisters. A few of them know a lot of what I've been through and I've had so much support. I feel like I'd be unhappier if I didn't do this because it's like... one of the best steps I can take in becoming the person I want to be. It's also great having sisters for everything, such as people to eat with and someone to study for classes with as well. I also get better, cheaper housing and a better, cheaper meal plan for the next three years. WOO! Anyways today I have class and loads of stuff. I will be wearing my letters with pride
