Do you tell your friends about Teenhelp? - November 9th 2009, 02:24 AM

Hello everyone

Simple questions:

Does your friends know about TH?
Have you told them about this site or plan to?

Not your relatives, your friends only. How would your friends react if you told them you're currently seeking advice&support online?

I hope you have the strength to start all over again.- F.Scott Fitzgerald

Re: Do you tell your friends about Teenhelp? - November 9th 2009, 03:38 AM

Hmm. A few of them know the basics. It's not like, "Hey, since we're friends, let me tell you about how I spend my life on this site called TH." .. . It has come up in conversation before, though. (: It's a part of my life that I don't really feel the need to hide, so whatever.

And I most likely wouldn't be telling them that I'm here solely to receive support and advice since I feel as though, generally, I give more than I receive. Do a few of them know that my original intentions for joining? Yes. Do they also know that I'm working past that even as I type and am pretty much .. yeah, past that? Yup. =D Hardcore style.

What about you?

Re: Do you tell your friends about Teenhelp? - November 9th 2009, 03:59 AM

I personally have advised a few friends here, although I don't think any of them came . I think its nice to have a place free from them to be honest, where I can ask advice and not be scared to put what I really feel.

Over the past year I've become a much more private person too, so no, to be honest none of my friends know, if I quote something from here, or they ask what I've been doing Teenhelp simply becomes a nameless forum... Sorry guys

I don't think my friends know about the site, or that I frequent here. I might let them know later on but... I might not. I dunno, it's really nice to have a place to go to where no one really knows your identity. I may tell them for their own benefit, or to show them a little part of my culture, but for now this is "my" thing.

None of my friends know about this site (except for the ones I've met on here of course ) I don't tell them about it because I like having a place to rant and just let things out (in forums or blogs or whatever) without having to worry about who's reading it. And I'll admit, I'm a little ashamed of some of the things I've admitted on here, and I think it's best that those things remain a secret. So yeah...for now, teenhelp is for just me to know about

Nope, none of my friends know about TeenHelp, or not that I'm aware of anyway.
At first, I was pretty scared that people would find me and all my postx, bug now I'm actually not that bothered if someone found me here right now. I'd be a lot more scared if someone had found my account before the reset as then I posted more of my own problems publically than I do now. These days, I post more advice than requests for advice. The only thing is that I do sometimes refer to past experience when giving advice, which would make me slightly uneasy. Now, I guess I wouldn't be too bothered if a friend found me here, because really, there's nothing to be embarrassed or ashamed about, is there? Everyone has problems and if you can help others then that's great. Saying that, the thing that would bother me would be people I know offline reading my blog posts because they're often so, I don't know...personal? I don't want people to know all of my thoughts and feelings.

I dont tell my friends about here. I like having one place where I can be myself and not have to worry about being judged. I mean I wouldnt freak if the friend that knows everything about me found out well because she aleardy knows everything about me.

Also in my past posts I've admitted a lot of things and while I dont worry about you guys telling or judging I do worry about some of my others friends doing that.

NO! None of my friends know. My boyfriend did find out (he's very clever) when he used my computer once. He was trying to go to our college website and he saw on my bookmark "TeenHelp" and asked me about it. I trusted him enough to say that I did go on it but that was it. I never told him any specifics as I didn't think it was necessary. He shrugged it off. God, I love him!! He trusts me with anything!! And I do too!! Anyways, I'm getting off topic, sorry.

Point is, only one person knows about TeenHelp other than my mom, although I never told her any specifics either.

Nope i don't think anyone knows this place, and i don't plan on telling them (to just hide my idenity from the people who know me) but if they are i wouldn't really mind. There're not the sort of people who would use these sites.

Almost none of my friends know. My ex knows, and my current partner do, along with my mother. But I don't feel the need to share, this is my place, without my real life drama to interfere [:

A couple do know because they were there when I tried to access it in school...
I told them I was looking for experience for being a counsellor when I was older and they just left it. Luckily.

When I first joined I didn't want to tell anyone, but now I can. Sometimes I'll even post on my facebook page when I've gone into LH. If they asked I would tell them now, but I really don't think they care.

Re: Do you tell your friends about Teenhelp? - November 9th 2009, 07:28 PM

None of my friends even know TH exists I don't think, the topic has never even came up, and if it did... I'd proabably hide it. A lot of times I ask for help on things that they shouldn't know about, or often about them. Soo.. yeah.
My friends get down sometimes, but they always manage to take care of themselves, or have me to take care of them. They don't need anything more so I don't feel bad about holding back on TH as a help system.
Only one person I would risk telling about, and that's my boyfriend. But he hardly needs it anymore since he's gotten a lot better since he got professional help with meds and such. That and most of my questions these days, if they arn't about friends, are definatly about him. and even though I always end up telling him every tiny little thing that goes through my head, I'd like to have some privacy here. Just in case I decide not to tell him something, or need help here first. idk where im going with this. lol

I think I'm way to paranoid about my mom finding out about this, as well as my deviantart account. and even facebook. I clear the browsing history every time I get off the computer and never bookmark anything. She's an idiot so she doesn't notice. But she would if she entered a website starting with T and teenhelp came up....

Take me seriously.
I dare you.

A few of my friends know about it, I mean the really close ones know I'm partly here for the support side of things, but the ones from college know that i'm doing some 'volunteer supporting' which is true.
I would be pretty scared if people found me on here, I've put some quite personal things that hardly anyone knows and I don't intend to tell people about them. But i'm pretty sure that the people I've told about this site wouldn't go searching the forums for me, they have better things to do with their time.

A few of my friends know that I use this site. A few other friends know that I am involved with a teen advice website and I've left it at that.

For the most part, I've stopped posting anything too serious about my life on here. I'm not really worried that someone would be able to dig up any dirt on me. Most of my friends are computer stupid.

Not really anyone knows about me being on here except one of my friends who I tell pretty much everything. She used to come on the site a long time ago actually and joined again but she hasn't come on since. I'm kind of glad she hasn't in a way because I post a lot of stuff on here that I'd rather people irl didn't know about me. A couple know I'm on a teen forum but even that I don't think they really know. *Shrugs* To put it simply though? If I found someone else on here who knew me at first I think I'd be mildly embarassed an it'd be rather awkward...but then I'd have to think about why they were joining the site ya know? I mean we all have our problems ..and I'm officially rambling

Most know that I mentor for some site that helps teens. I don't hide anything. I don't really feel like I have anything to hide. If my friends joined I wouldn't go into panic mode or anything.
Some of my closer friends know that the site is called Teenhelp, because they cared enough to ask. My best friend knows about why I joined and stuff.

I think about one friend knows. It's not something I'm ashamed of, just something I don't feel like publicly announcing to everyone because I don't want someone to come on and see I've said something aimed at them, or to come on and see something I'd rather people I'm friends with didn't know and so on.

Thanks everyone for responding ,
I can understand for those who chose not to tell, completely understandable :]
As for myself, I don't feel the need to hide anything from friends and relatives, I have nothing to be ashamed of telling my friends of what I do in my spare time if they asked, although I'm a private person and I just have that line of keeping my personal issues to myself offline and online and I deal with my issues just like everyone does and what Katrina said i'm here for a reason of mainly giving my support and advice rather than receiving, it's my way of giving back and I've talked with some great, full of potential, amazing people here

Nope, none of my friends or family know about TH, if my family found out I was on here they would be mad (my aunt found me on here one day and saw me posting some stuff on live help and she read it all) I was supposed to be doing homework, which I was, I was doing both and well, for like the next week she was mad, I told her it was a different site, I think secretly she knew it was this...she just never told me... I wouldn't want my friends knowing i'm on here because there is stuff on here that I wouldn't want them knowing and right now they aren't really being friends...I've never told anyone about TH, it's not that I'm trying to keep it a secret, it's that I know how people would react and don't think I can handle the stress of that in my life right now.

"i don't care your intentions. I just want you to know my self-hatred never took me where I wanted to go. At the end of the day...I can pick at the pain but I can't cut it away."

Some of my friends have a vague idea but they don't know the exact name of the site and I prefer it that way. It's good to have a place to vent and really be yourself without fear that someone finds out something you'd rather keep confidential. If my friends were to find out it wouldn't be a massive thing, I just prefer for them not to know so I can have the freedom to post my exact feelings and exactly what is going on in my life. I come across as a really open person, but really and truly I'm pretty closed and bottle a lot of things up so teenhelp is good for me. I like knowing what I say here stays here.
It's nice to have some privacy in a world where everyone is in each others lives and business.

I don't tell my friends about the site, mainly because it hasn't come up and I don't see why it would matter. If they asked about it, or if they found out I wouldn't mind. I don't have anything to hide.
