Does anybody else regret doing this? - January 26th 2009, 10:38 AM

Okay well when I first found this site I was planning on keeping it to myself so I didn't have to worry about what I was posting. But at the time I had a few friends who had problems so I decided I'd tell them about the website so they could get some advice.

Now though I wish I hadn't told them. I'd rather that no one I know in real life knew what I was posting or knew what problems I was having.

Has anyone else done the same thing and now regret it?

Nope, foreseeing this problem I've not told any of my friends and have never logged on except at my home PC which only I use.

If my real life friends have problems I usually help them on msn

I can understand where you're coming from Cara, but you shouldn't have to feel the need to be anonymous and secretive about your problems to your friends :] Saying that though, no one I know uses this site [that i know of] and it would probably cause a few problems if they did [hence why i used to use a false name etc. so no one would find out]. Now, I'm not so "anonymous" and I'm not so bothered about people knowing who I am, I suppose :]

I got told about this site by a friend, but I decided against telling them what my username was...
I then recommended it to a friend also, but he already knew my username and I did regret it slightly!

There are a few people I perhaps wish I'd never told, but I don't think any of them really use the site, and even if they do, anything I've posted over the last 4 years was wiped a few weeks back, so I can't complain anymore. And really, if you do have that problem, you could just make a second account so they don't know who you are, or use the more private parts of the site (HelpLINK and Live Help) to get advice instead.

Thing is, I've fallen out with a couple who I told about this site so it makes it a lot worse for me.

I have told one friend about this site. Of whom I met on another site. I'm pretty sure she doesn't use this site anymore. Apart from signing up, as far as I'm aware. But in answer to your question yes I do have a minor regret it.

My girlfriend also is on TeenHelp. Sometimes it's like "AHHH I have no where to hide!" But then I go to MSN and talk to people one-on-one.

I've never told anyone. Tempting. Because it could help them. But then i couldnt get the help I need, because a lot of stuff they didnt know. However, since its been wiped, i'd feel happier letting friends on, as my posts seem to be much more general problems than the screwed up shit i used to write.

I used to worry at times. Not excessively, but I did worry a little. But since the whole database is gone, there's nothing to worry about. At least not for me. I have been watching what I say on public forums ever since I became admin.

I haven't told anyone. I was considering telling someone a while back, and still am.
But now the database is gone, there's not much to worry about.

I'm very used to the idea of online stalking.. it's happened to be before. I don't think it's necessarily bad that people find you here because then they know what you're dealing with in a way that doesn't require confrontation.

Also, post wisely.

I do tell my friends about this site.. they just haven't "had a need for it".. supposedly. Their loss.

Yes, I told a friend of mine about TH last spring, as I thought it could be a help for her. Sometimes I do regret it but it's more that I regret telling her why I joined. I've felt like I have to be more careful about what I say because she may be following my posts etc but I don't mind as much anymore. There's no such thing as 'privacy' on the internet anymore anyway

I don't regret it because it's normally close friends who I trust and tell everything to anyways, so maybe try just telling close friends, trustworthy friends about it and they'll keep it to themselves and not tell anyone what you're posting. It's not anything to be ashamed of though. Everyone on the site reads your posts, and will give you advice, and we all see your posts. But we help you with your problems.

That is exactly the reason I don't tell anyone I use this site. I usually put up a front and pretend I'm okay and the stuff I post (well, used to post since the crash) definitely doesn't go along with the happy go lucky mask I wear. I'm just not a very open person if that wasn't obvious already

None of my friends know about this site that I know of but my parents and brother do and unforunately since I have a horrible memory and believe that all my accounts on anything are crap any way I am using one of my three passwords and usernames on this. So yea I regret that and I am never telling anyone else I am on this site.

My girlfriend is on here. Sometimes, I think I should have made another account with a totally different name so I can vent and she's never know. Buut I didn't. Oh well.

i havent. but i sorta knew that would happen, so i chose not to. of course. there were many times that ive found some nice things and wanted to show someone. then i just stopped myself. cause i dont want people that i actually know to know about my problems. no one that i actually no in real life knows about my real problems. i know its probably like bad not to have someone to talk to. but i just choose not to throw that burden on them. plus, i think it might be really awkward. unfortunately ive yet to find the friend that i can truly just unload on and it wont make a difference. but my friends in real life arent bad or anything.
and there are many other reasons why i wouldnt like to...just cant really think right now. lol

Yea, I'm not going to tell any of my friends about this site. Which is why I don't put my real name on here. I'm paranoid about that type of thing, there's things I've said on here that I wouldn't tell anyone right now.

I have only recently told a few of my friends about this site, but most don't even go on forums or don't really want to check this one out for some reason. After we had to reregister and everything I don't really feel I have anything to worry about anyway. But I do understand your concern. It is difficult to express yourself when people you have fallen out with are potentially reading it. What I suggest is to either make another account when you have something you want to say, but don't want to be directly identified, talk to another member or staff about it via PM (I'm sure we'd all like to help you out), or use the more private areas of the site.

I hope this works out for you.
Nat.

I have told a couple of my friends I use the site:
either they:
1. completely understand, and use the site sometimes
2. laugh at my weird ways and just get on with their own lives...

either way, I dont really care, how I feel is how I feel.. although I can totally see how you can regret something like this

My friends know I visit sites like this, but not specific sites or my usernames...
Though, now my username is my nickname, so I guess they could find me pretty easily.
Anyway, I've been thinking of telling some of them about it.
I no longer post anything I wouldn't want people I know to see.

Ye im worried my mates/parents would find this, as my mates have a tendancy to type in my e-mail address on google and my usual usernames, thats why i created a whole account and everything, of course loads of people are called Robin, I post alot abotu my personal life, and they really dont know me to deep so it would be difficult for them to understand

I think I've told some people. And I don't really worry about it. If they care enough to find out what I have to say then that's great. And if they don't like what I say it's their own fault for being curious.

I don't think I have been in that situation to regret it. I do use the forum on the other computer in the house and I do worry that because I'm logged in on that one someone will go in and possibly read my threads and see what I've been posting, especially my parents because there is somethings I'd rather they not know even if they know already but generally, no-one knows I use it and the only person who I did feel I didn't want to post because they used it doesn't use it anymore, I don't think anyway.

I dont tell my friends about many of the sites I go on because they really annoy me when they read all my posts. I told them about one site once. One of them read one of my posts and I ended up being reported to the police by my school because it all got twisted out of context and nobody believed what I said was true after that.

Re: Does anybody else regret doing this? - February 3rd 2009, 07:19 AM

Im tempted to tell my boyfriend what the site is... because Ive mentioned that Im on here to him before and I think his curious.
But I come on here for help and to get away, I wouldnt want people I know to read whats on here.
Even if I told him the site... after spending some time on here, he would probably find me.

I made the mistake years ago when I was about 16, I told my best friend about a different forum I was on and I ended up being humiliated I never went back to the site and didnt want to face anyone either.

I haven't told anyone else about this forum and won't I believe. Only because I told someone about another forum I post on and they went on there and read a ton of posts that they interepted wrong and all that jazz. So yeah, caused a bit of trouble between us but in a small tiny way I'm glad she did because she helped me realise a thing or two. But at same time..../end rambling
