It's the thought that counts.

If you are unable to afford a present for everyone, that's alright. It doesn't mean that you can't give them something. I'm sure the people who really matter will not mind that you're having financial problems. You could always make cards, bake muffins, knit them a sweater (as cornily old granny-ish) as that sounds. Anything crafty should work fine. Quick, simple and inexpensive.

Good luck with the present-making!

I have a really good friend who lost their job a week ago. Try going to the dollar store and picking up some baskets or cute boxes. Bake cookies and muffins and brownies, and such like that, and wrap them in cellophane and give gift boxes/baskets to your friends and family.

I also have no money and I've homemade most of my presents this year. They don't come with no cost but if you want to give something then homemade is better than nothing.

- Chocolate truffles (quite expensive ingredients but makes 60 so thats a lot of presents if you only give 5-10 to each person, as customary)
- Layered chocolates with crushed sweets on top (peppermint bark?)
- Banana bread (really easy to make)
- Cupcakes (again, easy)

It depends what you mean when you say "no" money. I had less than 20 to spend on a bunch of people and I bought ingredients to create all of the above.

If you really have *no* money then your friends and family should understand and not pressure you since you've lost your job. I'd rather lose friends who expected presents in the face of my being financially crippled than worry myself sick because I spent too much on people who don't appreciate it.

Ooh I actually love this thread.
I'm on a very tight budget ... Really don't have much to spend on people this Christmas & I didn't even think to make cupcakes or anything like that.
Thank You, you've just given me an idea of what to give to a few older people of my family

Life is too short to be anything other than happy all the time ..

Life is great!

sometimes, you could do this: write them a letter. if you aren't good at writing, who gives a shit? make this letter as personal and meaningful as you can, and give one to each person. if they turn up their nose at it...well, that's just plain rude.

Like coverness/jasper said, (yeah im still not sure if i call people by their name or their username, so im covering all corners so not to sound rude by accident lol) unless your very secrete the closest members of your family should know you cant afford a huge luxurious gift filled xmas this year, if not drop a few hints before the big day, they of all people should get that you would rather eat and have heating than buy perfumes, dvds and computer games for people.

A lot of people will be in a similar situation this year…so don’t worry about it too much.
