Car recall -
April 9th 2010, 03:23 PM
So I guess there is a recall on my car. Supposedly the power steering can go out if going under 15 mph. I never got a letter or phone call about it, and I didn't buy it from a dealership. So I'm not sure how to go about getting it fixed, because its not supposed to cost me anything. Any suggestions?

I suggest contacting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the manufacturer of the vehicle to confirm the existence of the recall and for instructions relating to what to do. It is the manufacturer's obligation to provide you with the information that you need, you shouldn't need to worry about researching this information like you are doing now. Usually with recalls, vehicles are taken to dealerships or repair shops where they repair the problem for free and then seek reimbursement from the manufacturer for their work. If they refuse to honor the repair free of charge, take the car elsewhere. Sometimes to get out of their obligations, manufacturers put "expiration dates" on recall notices and service bulletins and then refuse to honor them after said date, it is a sleazy practice especially when you aren't notified in the first place. So try to take care of this quickly. If a recall repair is refused citing "expiration" file a complaint with the governmental authority for consumer protection, usually your state's attorney general's office.
Would you elaborate on what type of car this is BTW? |

Thanks for the info, I seriously had no idea where to even start.... I bought it from a used car place, so my guess is if any info was sent out that it went to the previous owners.
Btw its a 2005 Chevy Cobalt. When reality is a prison, your mind can set you free. |

Looks like a pretty recent recall:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls...rue&refurl=rss Just take it to a dealership and they will fix it for free as instructed. |
