are you more shy online or in real life? -
April 21st 2010, 01:07 AM
I was just curious if people are more shy online or in real life.
Personally, I'm more shy online. For example, I rarely write on people's walls, using the chat feature on facebook unless someone posts on my wall, starts a chat, etc. I find myself having less things to talk about for some reason than I do in real life. "People simply disappeared, always during the night. Your name was removed from the registers, every record of everything you had ever done was wiped out, your one-time existence was denied and then forgotten. You were abolished, annihilated: vaporized was the usual word." George Orwell |

I'm more shy in real life. It takes me a bit to warm up to the person, depending on who it is. I'm really outgoing and stuff online.

I'm more shy online. I still haven't got this whole "how to be social online" thing down.
' e.g...I become uncomfortable if I say something in messenger and the other person doesn't respond for three minutes. lol. It's torture. I wonder things like "Did I say something stupid?" or "Was that insensitive?" or "Would I be ok if this person no longer wanted to be my friend?" Very paranoid lol. I'm really shy on Facebook too. I only write on Walls to tease people or for special occasions like birthdays. I prefer to talk to people online through IMs. I guess it depends where online for me. I feel a lot less awkward totally jumping to a new topic in IM. But stuff like emails...I'm bad at those too.

At least i'm not the only person that is more shy online. I've taken 10-15 mins before just writing a short message about a couple lines on people's facebook walls. It takes me even longer to write an e-mail.

I don't know people how know me in real life say I tend to struck up a conversation very good, but I don’t think online I’m like that I feel that if I write to someone first I might be “bugging” them so I wait until someone writes to me first.

I'm pretty shy online. I don't want to be seen as a lurk,
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |

I'm not shy in either situation, I'd say. xD I do worry about looking/seeming odd or saying something other people think is stupid. But I tend to just roll with it.
I think the only time any noticeable shyness shows with me is in romantic situations (the worst time) and then it's terrible.
And you know that, mother, I'd be lying, if I didn't tell you I'm afraid of dying. I told you to be patient I told you to be fine I told you to be balanced I told you to be kind |

I'm a heck of a lot more shy in real life than online. I find it easier to be myself online for some reason. Nothing comes out right when I say it in person. I feel awkward around almost everyone and just constantly laugh. So I tend to like avoiding social confrontations in person. xD

Shyish in real life. But, I can talk to anyone really.
Kinda shy online, I don't like people disagreeing with me, and I cant always say things how I would say them in RL. I would say that I'm comfortable online. I'm still alive.

I am absolutely shy either online or in real life.
I would lean towards me being more shy offline than online because people are that scary looking in person

I'm more shy in real life. I'm super confident online because there's very little chance of me meeting these people. If I ever met any of the people I'm friends with on here in real life I'd not know what to say even if we talk all the time on msn/fb/th chat.
I am getting more outgoing though but only if I have another friend with me, if I'm on my own with a new person I'll still be really shy. ![]() |

For me, it depends. I'm rarely shy online, and I wouldn't call myself shy in real life either. I'll just not talk much in a few classes because I either have no one to talk to, or I'm sitting next to a kid I hate and will probably just say something rude.
When I'm with friends though, I never shut up. I tend to have extremes like that >.> ![]() Take me seriously. I dare you. |

I'm more shy in real life, I guess partly because they can see my reactions. Like, if someone says something that upsets me, they can see I'm upset, or if they say something that annoys me, they can tell I'm annoyed. Whereas online that doesn't happen.
If that makes sense.
Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us - champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be. |

I'm definitely more shy in real life, at least online people don't see or hear me so I'm not so paranoid.
And online you can get away from difficult situations easier by just leaving the website for a bit or closing the window or whatever. If only I could do that in real life

I'm shy around new people, or in really big groups. Same online as off. I'm just more of a reserved person. I don't like to share my personal stuff with anyone really.
"Life is pain, anybody that says different is selling something" ~ Fezzik's Mother, The Princess Bride. ♥ "To die, would be an awfully big adventure."~ Peter Pan "Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. I'm not shy.
At all. I speak my mind and if people don't like that it's not my problem. I'm only shy if I don't know the person so well, or they have an accent different to mine. xD I always worry that they don't understand me.

I am ridiculously shy in real life. I rarely talk in school, even when I'm around my friends or my brother. At home I talk a little more, but still am pretty quiet. I can go days without saying a word.
I can text pretty easily. Online I can be a little more outgoing, but I am not known to start many conversations and am not very good at keeping them going. We were made to be courageous. Everybody falls sometimes Gotta find the strength to rise From the ashes and make a new beginning Anyone can feel the ache You think it’s more than you can take But you're stronger, stronger than you know Don’t you give up now The sun will soon be shining You gotta face the clouds To find the silver lining |

Neither.. kind of the same
As a general rule though, I find that those that appear most popular/outgoing online are the ones that are lonely/shy in real life. (RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance

I'm more shy online. I'm pretty confident in real life. I think it's because in real life I can see the person, so I can read them, and I know if there's a reason why they don't reply, and I can tell if I've upset them or anything. I'm much better at starting conversations and making friends in real life too. I can never seem to get talking to people properly online unless I know them really well already
