Operation Beautiful - February 11th 2011, 11:59 PM

A few weeks ago, someone put signs all around my school that said things like "You're amazing just the way you are" and "Believe in yourself." For operationbeautiful.com, I'm guessing. It was so cool walking to class and seeing the signs everywhere, and it's even cooler that the janitors left all the signs up and they're still there.

But anyway, it got me thinking, has anyone else ever done this? Put sticky notes or posters around your school / college / workplace / random place with inspirational quotes and such? If you do, do you disguise your handwriting so no one knows it's you? Or have you ever found operationbeautiful messages?

Re: Operation Beautiful - February 12th 2011, 01:01 AM

I know fersure that Fred is doing something like this at his school. I think everyone who takes the time to create something like this is nothing short of an angel.

"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it.
I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote,
“Dear Jim: I loved your card.”
Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.”
That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything.
He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

I've always thought that would be a fun thing to do, but I've never gotten around to it. I should make time to do something like that.

I don't need post-me's to appriciate myself and know I'm beautiful. I'll admit a few years back when I was insecure, it would have boosted my confidence a bit to see stickies around speaking out to me and reading optimistic messages like that. I think it's nice to see things like that.
It reminds you that there still are good people in the world who care.

This is a wonderful idea! I very much would like to do this some time. Hopefully the cleaning staff will not have the messages crumpled up and thrown out shortly after they are placed there, though.

Unexpected expressions of beauty and artistry like this always makes my day, all the more so when it is in a busy public place. It brings us back to the present, and to the awareness that inspiration can be found anywhere.

Operation beautiful is an amazing thing. I've put a few up from time to time. I actually put some up in my dorm last year. On the mirrors in the girls bathroom. They didn't stay there long except the one that wasnt on the main mirror though. I also put some in the library and really just random places around my university. hopefully some people saw them and smiled though or stopped for a second to think *Shrugs* I've got some more I want to put up. I just never think to take them with me.

I'd love to but I've never gotten around to it!! As a side note, the girls bathrooms in my university are often like little operation beautiful notes in themselves...often written on the door are things like 'Don't ever let a guy take over your feelings' or 'Always do what you want to do'.....it's lovely really. :')

I think it's wonderful and I'm definitely going to do this at some point. I think they might get taken down at college or in the coffee shop, but until then someone's got to see it.

ME! I did this a couple of weeks ago. Last time I popped in that bathroom (nearly a week later) one of the notes was still stuck on the mirror!

I've never found any, but every once in a while I'll put some up in public bathrooms on the mirrors.

I had a friend who did this for me a lot. She made it so random. I didn't know it was her doing it for the longest time. I loved seeing them. They made me smile on the inside. One day I will do it for someone else. Maybe even lots of people depending on where I post them.

I've never seen one of these, or heard of them anywhere but TH. Either they aren't big in England or they only appear in girls-only spaces.

Re: Operation Beautiful - February 14th 2011, 12:27 AM

I sort of do this

But I just put random post-its in weird spots with weird/unsettling things.

Like once I stuck a post it saying "Congrats, you found the pot of gold!" behind a toilet in a Fortinos bathroom
came back 2 days later and someone wrote "Ass, someone beat me to it!"

Re: Operation Beautiful - February 14th 2011, 02:05 PM

I figured that, today being Valentine's Day, there'd be a lot of people around who were single and feeling unwanted. So I decided they ought to feel beautiful instead. I spent a couple of hours this morning writing inspiring messages on post-it notes. "Smile, you're BEAUTIFUL". "Hold your head up high, BEAUTIFUL." "Just because no-one likes you doesn't mean you aren't BEAUTIFUL." That sort of thing. I even drew some little hearts and flowers to make them prettier. I must have gone through half a pad. Anyway, post-its prepared, I set out to stick them up where people would see them.

But my attempt to spread Valentine's Day cheer met with a snag. Just as I finished decorating the mirrors in the women's toilets, I was caught in the act. Unfortunately my lucky balaclava wasn't enough to protect my from her pepper spray, and my attempts to explain myself to Security fell on deaf ears. My disciplinary hearing is on Thursday.

Good on you!!!!
Just, maybe you should have found a female friend to go into the loo's for you
I did the same thing today! Heart shaped sticky notes all over my college - I stayed out of the loo's though
Covered all the lockers, ceilings, insides of books (Places people won't always find them) Hahahaa :P
It was fun! And, but after a while all the cleaners had taken most down

I'm still alive.

You better walk the line or you'll be left for dead.

I'm a runaway train on a broken track
I'm the ticker on the bomb that you can't turn back
Thats right.
I got away with it all and I'm still alive.
Let the end of the world come tumbling down.
I'll be the last man standing on the ground
As long as hot blood runs through my veins
I'm still alive.

Re: Operation Beautiful - February 17th 2011, 02:14 PM

I do it all the time with my suitemate at my college campus. We do it at night when no one usually sees us some stayed up for an entire week (pretty amazing with 50,000 students). We're also going to do chalk next time and write on the sidewalks (someone stole our idea and did the same a little while back )

"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.'
I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish.
'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.'
'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said.
'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'"
