Paying board? - April 5th 2011, 09:18 AM

Ok, so this might want moving to another section...I couldn't decide where it went :/

So I've moved back home with the parents, and agreed to pay board. Now, I don't want to sound ungrateful, but to me, £150 a month out of my roughly £350 - £400 a month seems a bit much. I would get it if I was more of a drain, but I do all the housework, get myself to and from work, and cook dinner for everyone.
I was paying that much for my flat, not including bills....I really dont want to sound awful.
They put me on the car insurance too, because they wanted to be able to go out and have a drink...but I'm paying the £40 a month for that on top of board too.
Ugh...The reason I moved back was that I didn't have any money left in my savings and wanted to build them up...

The bit thats gets me is that they've just gone out and spent close to £200 on a new designer outfit for my 17 year old sister. Doesn't this mean I'm paying for her?

Am I being ungrateful?

Just a hop, skip and a jump.

I'd sit down and talk with your parents and see if you can come up with a comprimise...

When I stayed at home I didn't pay board, and my parents still help me out now and then as I'm not at home (as work + student loan isnt' enough to cover everything).

Sit down and chat with them and see what sort of arrangement you can come to.
I pay about £130 a month board (plus £20 per month internet) but I work full time and earn a good wage.
£150 does seem a lot when you've only got £350 or £400 coming in.
