What is Art? - April 5th 2011, 01:04 PM

*(Forgive me if this is in the wrong spot. I am not sure where it's supposed to go).

This question was inspired by an assignment I had to turn in earlier this semester.

What is art to you? And please don't look in a dictionary. This is in your own words. There are many views of what art is.

So, what is art?

First thought that came to mind:

Art is... Anything that captures how a person was feeling or their thoughts at that time.

Which is true; poetry, stories, paintings, photography... they all capture the creators emotion/thoughts.

I find art something that purely comes from your own figments of imagination, and from your heart and soul. Something you worked very hard on, something likes landscapes, animals, trees, flowers. It could be anything.
But I don't see what the point in art is when you see canvasas that only have paint splashed all over them in no particular fashion or design. That's a waste of money, paint, and a perfectly good canvas. To each their own I suppose, but it should be something more creative and meaningful to me.

Anything that you use to express yourself: painting, drawing, sculpting, poetry, other writing, singing, dancing...
