Question Confused. What do I do? - April 11th 2011, 08:20 PM

Alright, about six months ago i left home and moved 550 miles away to attend college in NY. As the semester is coming to an end, I can't help the feeling that i really want to move back home to NH. This area doesn't have much to offer for things to do, and to be honest, ive become pretty dam homesick, considering this is the first time ive moved from home.

In order to cut tution costs, i live with family nearby the college. And part of the plan of moving to NY was to establish myself; ex. Getting good grades, get a full time job for the summer, and make new friends.

Lately, that plan hasnt been so appealing to me. Im considering the possibility of moving back to NH, where everthing i know is. I have a good paying job, many close friends, and the opportunity to attend a local school there.

The only thing that makes me hesitant is the idea of letting my family down here in NY, because i know that i havent been all too open to this experience and truely havent given it my full effort.

What do i do? Move home where i know i'll be happier, or toughing it out in this new area in hopes of actually enjoying it in the future?

Hello, Jbrown

My advice is to visit your home for a while and see if that helps. Homesickness is never good, and you need to be happy. But, also discuss it with your parents first. You can still go to the school and visit home now and then, but also pay attention to your education as well as you can, and follow your heart.

I agree with Mandiie. However, I'm more leaning on the side of toughing it out, because you need to be able to gain the ability to set yourself into new areas so then your horizon can expand and you can take more from this life. I think it would be a good idea to visit home when you can and see if that environment is more suited to you then NY, it would also help with the homesickness. Visit, see friends, and then tour around, see of you can see yourself planing your future there. In the end, do whatever feels right.
Hope all works out for the best!
