Do you ever worry someone will find you on here?

My family knows I'm here, but I don't want my friends knowing. This is like my place of escape and I don't want any of my friends reading my posts.

i do. mostly because if you google my name (my original user was my name) you find all the tH stuff. and my brother tends to like searching the names of people in our family

If you are worried about being recognised, just limit the amount of personal information your share, either in threads or on your profile.

No one has ever found me without me telling them about the site. A few years ago I made the mistake of telling one of my friends, who then told another. This didn't end well for me, because they started rifling through my posts, including ones in the "Dirty Little Secrets" thread.

Now I never mention TH to anyone in real life, unless they are looking for help themselves. It's not worth the hassle.

Yeah, I worry about that. My two closest friends know I am on here (they are on here too) but my family don't know I have an account. I think they'd be offended that I don't talk to them about stuff, or assume something terrible has happened when sometimes I just want to help people.

Definitely. Its been while since I've posted revealing and personal things about myself on here, but you can easily look and see what I've posted in the past. My husband knows I'm on here which was a mistake because I'd be pretty devastated if he read some of my older posts... which is why I'm more of a lurker now than anything :P I don't contribute much anymore. He respects my privacy though, and I don't think he cares what I put on here tbh.

Awhile back I'd put my son's first name in some of my posts. Its pretty unique, so if you searched it on Google all of my TH stuff would come up. I went back and had it removed and now nothing comes up which is a relief.

This. This is what happened to me. It sucked. xP But yeah I mentioned it to one friend cause I thought he could use the help and he made an account but he never uses it so... yeah.

My girlfriend knows too because she wanted me to get professional help but my parents refused and this was the only place I could think of to go. She's happy with it but she doesn't have internet so she hasn't actually seen the site ever. My parents don't know about it though. xP Neither does my family. I hope they never find out.

I used to, but I haven't since I was staff, then quit. Lately I do more helping than requesting for help anyway. Besides, the only people that would actually spend the time on me to look this site up, know about it. Hell, I even made my boyfriend get an account once.

I hate it when my mom uses my laptop for that reason, but I don't think she knows. (At least I hope she doesn't. xD) And plus if I don't let her use it she'll nag me about it, so it's unavoidable if she does find out.
Once someone was going to Pandora on my laptop and we also had a pizza dough recipe open. Since I have Google Chrome it shows my most visited sites. I didn't even think of it until it was done and I panicked a bit. Luckily she didn't say anything about it if she did see it because that would have been awkward. xD

I don't actually Anyone who is important to me knows I have an account. I can't imagine if anyone I knew did find it that they'd use anything I've posted as an insult, and if they did, God help them :P So i'm not too bothered really. Everyone has problems, so if someone goes on here pretending they don't and then uses someone's posts against them then they're a liar and they need more help than anyone. And merry christmas :P

Someone has found me here before. An ex of mine. Close friends know i'm on here, but i've never said anything about my username and try to keep my identity hidden a bit.
When an ex found out, he signed up for the site, found my profile, and then read all of my posts. And how did I know this? He was stupid enough to add me as a friend. I was so mad, there were posts about things I haven't told anyone and there was a reason for that. To say I went mad is an understatement.

My parents and sister (who is fifteen) know I go on here. But they're all good about respecting online privacy and won't go looking for me for that reason. They know I post personal things here that I may not want them to know.

As for other people, yeah. I don't think it'd bother me so much if my friends found it or members of my extended family. They might be surprised at the things I post, but I think they'd be understanding. In fact, I've recommended this site to my aunt, as she has a niece who is struggling with depression. I'd recommend it to others, too, if I knew they were having problems. My issues aren't something I advertise, but I also don't feel a need to be ashamed.

It's people I'm not close with that I worry about, like kids from my high school. Thankfully, though, I'm not overly popular at school (I'm the quiet kid who no one really notices) and so I don't think that anyone will be stalking me online.

Also, I share a first name with a famous singer, so if you google me nothing personal comes up in plain sight. My username is also private, and I don't have links to any social networking sites in my signature that could clue people in to who I am in real life (in case someone did stumble upon a post of mine). My profile is private to anyone who isn't a registered user. My blog is private to those who aren't friends.

So I do believe I'm pretty safe.

I'm not worried because I don't post anything on here that's too revealing about myself and I don't post things I'm uncomfortable with bringing up. I rarely have described my friends, girlfriends and family on here, so their privacy isn't compromised. If I'm unsure about posting something, I don't post it, so many personal things I do not share on TH. Furthermore, I intentionally give only a little detail about myself because it's not just people on TH who will read it, it's everyone in the world who has a computer may read it. Many users share personal information and family problems on here but even when I have such problems, I don't post it on here.

However, I did once lose an opportunity for a great job because of one of my threads on here. Looking back, the thread itself wasn't that bad of an idea but I should've caught on when someone on here was asking the day and time of my interview. Shortly afterward, I received an e-mail saying the person contacted the potential employer and I they revoked my opportunity. I truly pissed me the fuck off because it was something I did want quite badly. At the time, I won't say what I would've done to the TH person if I met them in-person, chances are I would be arrested and if I were generous, they would have crawled to the hospital. Since plenty of time has elapsed, if I met them in-person, I wouldn't do any of those things. At most I may call them a few choice words but that would be all.

I'm worried about my family finding it, but not anyone else, simply because I get called an attention seeker enough, part of me wants other people to find it so they would actually know what was going on. But I only talk about it with friends who might need to use it.

I used to worry about that a lot more than I do now. My parents know that I come to a website like this and they think it is good for me. I restrict my blog to friends and moderators only and that is where most of my private ranting and ravings are done. Yes, I worry a lot, especially because I have pictures of my real self on here and it's a bit obvious in the way I am :S My mum saw an email (which I now know how to stop) from here, asked what it was, and I managed to bluff my way out of it... I don't think she snooped But it was VERY stressful! Even my friends finding out would be horrible and if anyone else at school saw it I'd die. It's an easy website to come across too, if you time in a forum question then bam! In short... yes I get paranoid Xxx
