Question Read me... - August 23rd 2011, 06:47 AM

I love TH so much, but the people in the chat rooms really suck, it's like I'm an outsider...They can't even say "Hi" or "Bye" to me.
It's so rude...I can't stand it anymore.
What should I do?

Hey Sabreena, welcome to TeenHelp.

You're very new to the site according to the registration date. Everyone comes across this problem at first. You just haven't found your place yet and that's to be expected when you're this new. Don't be too quick to pass judgement, though. Some of the people in chat can be really friendly once you become acquainted with them, especially our buddies and chat moderators.
If you're having particular trouble making friends, our buddies are here to help you get accustomed to the site and to feel welcomed. Have you tried saying hello first and making conversation? Try giving people a little time to get to know you and become friendly with you.

I had a similar problem when I returned to TeenHelp. No one really recognized me since everyone was so new. Once I found nice friends and a little spot on TH I could find myself settled into, it feels comfortable.

I hope this helped! See you around. c:

Re: Read me... - August 23rd 2011, 05:28 PM

Many people have this issue, mostly because chat can get very busy and sometimes it is hard to see EVERY person who says something. Sometimes people just get missed in chat because everyone talks :P

Also, sometimes chat gets very quiet even though there are people in there. Sometimes I log in to chat just to be "around" other people but I don't talk.

I am sorry you are having trouble in chat. I hope this doesn't put you off to TH.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...

Well the thing is, generally when I come in, no one is talking in the chat or they will be chatting but, I just find it very rude, I mean I say hello/bye to people...I had another TH acct. but I forgot the pass & I never got the email to change it...Even then people were acting like this...

They do that to me sometimes and I'm a chat mod, been on this site for ever, and have a ton of friends. You're not the only one who doesn't get said hi to. Just say hi when you get in there and join the conversation. It's not that people are deliberately trying to ignore you or be rude, it's just some people forget or don't realize you come in. I've been chatting for so long that before I was a chat mod, I used to overlook people who came in because I was so used to seeing it. Plus, a lot of people don't pay attention to chat, even when they're in chat.

I cannot see how that is rude or how that would mean that "the people in the chat rooms really suck." To be honest, it's not our fault that you can't fit yourself in.

Think of entering a chat room as entering a coffee shop or dropping into a random party.

Except for the cashiers and greeters, none of us have any obligation to greet or make an effort to include anyone in our conversation. It's up to you to "fit yourself in" or strike up a conversation with someone---unless, of course, if you are a VIP or an honor guest.

"Buddy" is the equivalent of a greeter on TH, but I'm pretty sure that they only need to handle the newcomers to the forum, not every single person entering and existing the chat. That's just unreasonable.

Besides, when active, the chat room constantly have people entering and existing. If we all say "Hi!" and "Bye!" every time someone entering and existing, then it would interrupt with the current conversation and soon the chat would be filled with "hi/bye" everywhere. Also, sometimes it's just inconvenient to abruptly throw out something random while in the midst of a conversation with someone.

Re: Read me... - August 23rd 2011, 09:11 PM

As everyone else stated, people in the Chat Room don't mean to do it. Just "butt" in, so to speak.

I've even said hi a few times and been ignored. Try not to take it personally. Join a convo, say hi or bye first. Sometimes people feel they don't know you so they shouldn't reply. I've felt that way a few times. But now I'm used to just randomly shouting "Hey guys!" and if I get no reply I just say "Hey, I said hello! Someone say it back!"

And then people realize it and we strike up a convo.

I fail to see where he was rude but each to its own the same logic would apply to you "I don't know why you have to be so mean; no one forced you to read the comment"

Anyways I do think the chat room is a neutral place just like a café shop when you first go in not everyone in the shop will stop what they are doing just to greet you that’s why employees greet you and they get paid to do so. Here in TH everyone is volunteer no one gets paid to do anything. You have to speak up if you want people to notice you.

Hey Sabreena,
I have this happen a lot too. You just have to put yourself out there and say "hey everyone, what are we talking about today?". People will usually greet me then and I join the conversation.

If there's a particular person who was rude, you could make a complaint. I've met lots of super nice people in the chat room, and generally everyone in there is very friendly. But honestly the TH chat room is and always has been a very clique-y (spelling?) place. It can be hard to fit in because certain people are already friends. Though, this is not high school it is a teen website. Lol. That being said all you have to do is jump into the conversations and just introduce yourself when you go in there.

Boohoo. He's a registered user on a public forum, just like I am and just like all the other users who gave responses you liked. I have no idea how you'll survive in the world with such over-sensitivity. If you thought VoidZN was rude, you're in for one hell of an awakening once you enter the world. While nobody forced him to comment, nobody forced the other users to comment as well, which is why I'm commenting.

As for the actual topic at hand, grow some skin and initiate a conversation if nobody else is talking. People aren't paid on this site to be greeters, otherwise you would be seeing lots of "hi" and "bye" messages in chat. There have been other users who bitched and moaned over this same stuff, and I have zero sympathy for them. It's a teen website, not a website meant to spoon-feed you on a silver plate.

If you think someone is being rude to you (lol), instead of making a thread about it and whining, you'd be better off to report them. Personally, I prefer the person to PM me or talk in chat rather than running to the mods because we can explain our actions plus it shows me you have a spine and skin.

I can rip you off, and steal all your cash, suckerpunch you in the face, stand back and laugh. Leave you stranded as fast as a heart-attack.
