Need some advice.. - August 28th 2011, 05:04 PM

G'day,

So I'm writing this in hopes someone can give me some advice, technically legal advice. Here's the situation, back in June my friend wanted to go for a test drive but he's 18, and if you're over 18 they do a credit check and he couldn't have that happen for whatever reason, so he asked me to ask for the test drive for him because I don't get a credit check since I'm only 17.

So into Honda I go, got the test drive for him and told him if he does anything stupid it's his responsibility. Well, he did some burnouts and video taped them and put them on YouTube. Honda found the videos and contacted the police. One day the police called my cellphone, asked to speak to me and then told me that's why they were calling, and told me to call the owner and make an appointment to go see him and that all they wanted was for me to cover the damages.

So I went in, the guy was somewhat chill, we came to an agreement that I'd pay the damages. $1600. It's now August, I'm going into make my last payment Friday... Made my 2nd last yesterday and he says "I think before I released the papers from the police we should have a meeting with your folks and have them come in for the last payment.".

My folks are aware of the situation, but they're pretty pissed with Honda and think the salesperson who let me take the test drive should be more responsible for giving me the test drive and blah, I don't want them to go into the meeting because they'll just get into a big arguement.

What I'm wondering is if I go in without them and make my payment, the final one, could he turn around and press charges, even though everything is paid? That's what I'm scared of.

I think the main thing is that you payed for all the damages. If they tried to press charges, and take you to court over this then thats what you would have to end up doing anyways. I would deffinetly make sure you have it in writing what he said the damages are and what you have paid. If you don't and there is no proof of what you paid then your kind of screwed, because he could say you didn't pay it, and then basically take you to court for the money.
If he wants to talk to your parents then give him a number he can get in touch with them. If they end up fighting its not your fault.

Just go in yourself and get the payment out of the way. It's better to have it out of the way as soon as possible.
