I think they should teach it in schools - as an extracurricular class or something, obviously. For the UK I'm sure they could squeeze it into 'Life Skills' lessons at GCSE.

Re: Would you do it? - September 18th 2011, 10:12 AM

I have my cpr certificate. I went through training.

Not to long ago, I was at a house party. One of my buddies, (he has very intoxicated and he obviously wasn't thinking right) decided to jump into the pool in the backyard. We were all in the living room when we heard screams.

I saw a few people go out into the pool, but I stayed inside. A couple minutes later, I saw that people were still huddled around the pool. I go outside and see my friend face down in the water. I dive into the water and bring him back onto the pool deck.

I did cpr/mouth to mouth on him. Some people were aghast about it, but at the end of the day, when someone needs to helped, you have to be mature and help them. I didn't find it gross or anything. Mouth to mouth is nothing sexual or gross and it shouldn't make you uncomfortable. I can understand if you don't know how to perform it, but if you are trained in cpr and refuse to do mouth to mouth, you need to grow up.

I would definitely do it even though I don't know how to. I plan to learn though.

Re: Would you do it? - September 19th 2011, 06:17 AM

I would do it. I'm a very cautious person and I always bring a mouth-to-mouth mask with me. <.<

I was prepared to use it once on a child, thankfully the item they choked on was puked up.

It is life or death, granted it could be gross to some, but again that's why they make masks and they are pretty cheap too.

Nope, I could catch something from someone. If it was a person close to me, yes, but some stranger on the street, not my problem, my job, or my responsibility.

Re: Would you do it? - September 19th 2011, 03:52 PM

I've been through a CPR training course 5+ times in the past 2 years. Despite being able to teach the class instead of taking it at this point, I don't know what I'd do.
I like to think I would help the person and give them CPR but at the same time, I would probably panic and run and scream at the first person I found to help me.

I'm CPR certified and I keep a mouth barrier with me, so if the scene was safe and all that jazz, I'd do my best

I learned how to do it when I took my babysitting class years ago and still remember, so most likely yes.
I would be extremely freaked out though, not gonna lie. xD

I would.. I mean, if someone was dying, I wouldn't risk their lives just because I was uncomfortable.
I know CPR, and am CPR certified, so why not use my certfication?

Yeah I'd do it. Wouldn't be a very comfortable experince for me and if there was somebody else there more certified than me, which wouldn't take a lot, I'd let them do it. But I wouldn't just sit and watch somebody die when I could do something about it.

Yes, I would do it. To be honest, I'm surprised people said no. I'm CPR certified and would do my best to help the person until an ambulance could get there. It's a matter of life or death, and I wouldn't risk someone's life.

I definitely would because it's the right thing to do, and I would hope somebody would do the same for me if I were in a state of need.

I'd have to go with no. Not only do I have no idea what I'm doing, I'd probably be extremely shocked and panicked that I wouldn't think to do it, I think the only thing I'd be able to think to do is call an ambulance.

Well yes. I would and have done this.

You absolutely SHOULD NOT DO THIS if you have not had profession training in the last 3 years. You can cause way more harm than good if you do not know what you are doing.

research shows rescue breaths actually do basically nothing; it's the compressions that help and with that you have zero risk to yourself.

30 compressions yo! If you don't feel comfortable giving rescue breaths don't do it. It doesn't really add anything anyway.. in every situation I've had to do it I've not given rescue breaths because I'm not going to get hep C.

I'd probably stand there panicing for a minute and then do CPR or whatever, or at least try to. Even if they looked all nasty and dirty or something.. I'd cringe doing it, but I'd do it.
