At what time can you legally complain about noise? - September 28th 2011, 09:59 PM

My neighbours are driving me mental. Their dog is barking constantly and they won't do anything about it. He will bark until about 12am -____- He will also bark early in the morning (like 7am) They're also arguing which is easy to hear. If they have a BBQ they will be playing music until about 1am as well.

I want to complain to the police but I don't know if they are actually breaking a law. Also, who do you complain to about noise? (who do I phone up?)

My mum is telling me to ignore it but it's hard to ignore it at 1am when you're trying to sleep >____< Plus, my bedroom is facing their back garden so I can hear everything.

Yes, they are breaking a law (I can't remember which one) by being a public nuisance and you have every right to complain to the police (whether they will do anything about it is another matter ).

You are able to report loud noise such as music after 10pm.

I know in the US it's 10pm. You can complain after that time usually.

It depends on your city/county/state code says. It can and most likely would be different for each city/county/state.

Hai Ceilidh!

They are horrid neighbors!
Yup, usually it's 10pm. Call the police, hun, they should be able to take care of it.
Best of luck!

You can complain because they're being a nuisance as said, I thought it was after 11pm but it must be 10pm going by what everyone has said so I would report it. I'd go to the police as well and let them deal with it.

As the other guys have already said, you are eligible to complain seeing as it's very late at night and causing you disruptions.

Here we don't have a specific time I live in a quiet neighborhood so I've never had a problem, but when I go to parties at my friend’s house we are the ones making a lot of noise we usually stay up will the sun comes out and the police do come and tell us to lower the music but legally they can’t do anything unless they have a filed complaint which it never gets that far. But if you do call the police just make sure you first have filled a complaint because over wise they can’t do much or at least that’s how it works here.

I'm pretty sure in the UK it's 10pm, 11pm on weekends, and sometimes 9pm if it's a built up area. You can call the police and report the noise.
Have you tried talking to them about it? Some people don't realise they're making too much noise because they're used to it. If you haven't maybe try? If you don't want to then I'd go with calling the police anyway

You can't move mountains by whispering at them.
