We are getting more and more users purely ADVERTISING. It's called spam I believe. But it's getting annoying! I have noticed two in a week! And never in my time on TH have I seen spammers!
Why are we suddenly getting them?

This happens every once in a while, they seem to come and go in waves, and the mods usually have things under control. Report any that you see and they will eventually give up and leave.

It's nothing new. When I was a "Supermoderator" years ago we had spammers then too.

The thing is. The links they provide may be malware or phishing. How do we stop unsuspecting users clicking them and their computer being infected/passwords and personal info stolen?

Hi Jem,

Whenever you see a potential spammer it is best to report them, preferably through the post or blog which they’ve posted on. This allows for easy navigation through the site for the moderating team. Online communities are always subject to spammers. TeenHelp has a fairly constant traffic level of visitors viewing our site that’s why we are a target. So whenever you see someone breaking the Code of Conduct just submit a report and we’ll get to it right away.

Well I keep trying to report the posts But I get a message saying
"requires you to wait 30 seconds between reports
When I only reported once?

Make sure you're not double clicking anything.

Do you click submit multiple times? It might be telling you to wait because it thinks you're submitting multiple reports or multiple times

It only makes logical sense because as a website grows in popularity, so does the population of spammers. If you want to advertise a product of some sort, it would only make logical sense to advertise to a large group of people that share common interests. TH is controlled by a limited number of moderators responsible for a vastly growing population of members, and therefore you have a better chance of squeezing by the defenses and posting an advertisement that could be up for several minutes on a website that is accessed by young kids who might not know any better to click it simply out of curiosity. There always was spammers, it's just that when a site grows in its number of members, so does the chance of having a spammer.

What you could also do is, send a PM to a Super Mod...or whatever they are now. With a list of spammers you see. Like keep the PM open, and whenever you see one, throw their link in a Private message and send it. That also helps.

You only need to report a user once when they are spamming.

They usually don't come into chat. They just join the site and leave their profile up and some of them will post nonsense in the forums. Mostly they just join then leave.

I haven't been constant on TH enough to know if there is a peak time, but I do know they come in waves.

Jem, if you see multiple users who are spammers - instead of reporting each one individually, it's easier to collect the names (and links to their profiles) and send the list through PM to a PA. Now, if they are spammers posting on the boards, it's best to use the report button on their post so someone can get it off the boards as soon as possible.

And as everyone else has said, TeenHelp has a lot of traffic and the more we get, the more spammers we will get too. Hopefully, if users see a spammer, they will report it so they can be taken off the site before they can post.

I've noticed it, especially when doing the Visitor Messages list and its extremely annoying as you can never get it completely cleared when there is spammers.
If you see any, the advice I have been given is to message their profiles to a Project Advisor person and they will deal with it from there.
