A question about the volunteer mentor application form? - December 6th 2011, 03:32 AM

Naturally, I'm the type of person who has a lot to say. *Especially when it comes to making a good impression or applying for a position.*
I've never filled out an online application such as this one, and my answers are quite long. I'm answering them exactly as I would if it were an in-person interview. (Or exactly as I would if I were actually answering the 'scenario' questions.)

Is this perfectly okay, or would the staff prefer I 'dumb' it down a bit?*

Don't dumb it down, answer as you naturally would, especially the scinario questions. They want to see how you would actually handle those situations, not how good you are at filling out an application.

Exactly what Katie said. Answer everything to the best of your ability & act as though you're talking to an actual person. Good luck on your application!

Yes, act like you are really talking to someone. Sometimes the more information, the better. Most people don't want "Oh hey, its okay to feel sad".

....

Then nothing. :P Before I got Buddy, I think mine were roughly a paragraph or so long (each roughly a quarter of a page). So it doesn't matter how long it is as long as you answer them how you would really answer them.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...

Just make sure not to ramble on about something that isn't relevant to the question.
But everyone else has said it all.
Good luck!
Just answer it like you normally would.
Don't jazz it up or down just for the sake of t being an application.

What we look for in all our staff is professionalism. We want to see good grammar, spelling and a certain level of maturity.
What we want specifically from Mentors is long, thought out advice, which at the same time is concise and to the point. We're not asking for pages, but a good few paragraphs should be sufficient.
Most of all, be exactly who you are. We don't want people to come in moulds of others. I like seeing the diversity in our Staff groups, from location, to experience to personality to anything you can think of. The more diversity we have, the more topics we can cover sufficiently with good advice.
And that's just it, good advice, we want to be able to give the best advice we can to the people who come looking for it.
Good luck with your application [:

OH! I just noticed you registered on the 22nd of December, so I'd advise you not to send in your application until you've been here a month, otherwise it will be an automatic decline I believe. Though I'd need someone on the Talent Committee to verify that for me [:
