Question Asking for help? - January 11th 2012, 11:44 PM

(Not sure if this is in the right place so feel free to move it if it's not.)

I've been here a while now and noticed that the number 1 piece of advice going round is that you should tell someone when you have a problem whether it be a doctor, friend, parent, teacher etc.

My question basically is who has actually done this, if you're glad you did it and whether or not it helped you?

In my opinion, letting someone know there is a problem is a step in the right direction. It may take some doing to figure out who that person is, whether multiple people will be involved, what type of help you may receive, but it may help to kind of relieve any tension you have about the situation.

Funnily enough, my first step was telling someone on here and I built from there.

Eat upon their flesh for fuel, and, through your determination and will, banish them to obscurity and a life of complacency and self righteousness that is the hell in which they live"

I have told someone from here basically everything. Bear in mind that I trust this person a lot, and that's what you need to do when telling someone. <---I hope that makes sense

Yeah, it really helps. I have someone that I can talk to about anything and everything. I am extremely glad I did this, and right now am working (with this person) on telling someone here, in real life.

It is a great step in the right direction, and personally, it saved my life.

Telling someone is very important. It can really help just knowing that you're not dealing with something on your own.

I've been struggling with mental health problems and I was given advice on here to tell someone. Now my parents are on my side and I'm seeing a counselor who is helping me learn more healthy coping methods. For me, this isn't the final step. I know that I need more help. But it's a start and it means that I always have someone to talk to when things are bad.

Talking on here is often the first step for a lot of people, but on here we can only give advice, whereas if you tell someone you know they can do awesome things like hug you when you're feeling bad, you can get professional help, diagnosis, counseling, have people around you to physically help you with things... the possibilities are endless.
