There is. As a user who is not on staff, you do not have the option to re-open a thread yourself. PM the moderator of the forum the thread is posted in and talk to them about re-opening the thread.

As a moderator, we generally don't reopen threads. If we do, it depends on why it was closed in the first place. The best thing to do is PM a moderator.

Was gonna ask the same thing.

As someone who posts in the Music forum loads, news about certain bands can be spread over weeks, so when I go to post in a band's thread, it can be closed by the time I get there. I don't wanna make a new thread for a band that recently had one though. I don't really get why threads have to close.

Threads get closed for various reasons:

-Arguments
-Inactive for a certain period of time.
-Questions have been answere. Example: Why is Live Help never online?
-Original poster asks for it to be closed
-Not appropriate thread
-when the original poster creates a more updated thread.

As Lynds said, there's a lot of reasons why threads might get closed: if it gets too off-topic, the date of the event it's about passes, the OP wants it to be closed, the question only has a limited number of answers (so any further responses won't add anything), there have been no new replies for a while, etc. Ultimately it's a way to keep the forums clean and clear; if all threads stayed open forever, the boards would get cluttered, and threads from years ago could be bumped and cause a lot of confusion. Does that make sense?

Just to add, threads close automatically after 2 weeks of inactivity. If a thread is closed which you'd like to post in and keep all the information together, then PM the mod of that forum. Or me! We're not so cruel as to deny your posting, or force you into making new threads. That wouldn't be very organised at all.
