I threw my blade away! - January 11th 2009, 01:11 PM

I noticed we didn't have many recovery stories so I found the one I posted just before the site went down and I thought I'd repost it, it got a lot of positive response last time I posted it so I thought it could still help people.

I kept it for all these years at first I am not sure why I kept it I think it was because I thought I would go back to it but I hid it and I stopped cutting, After that I kept it as a kinda reminder of how strong I am to be able to stop and a warning of how bad things can get and it helped me stay positive and after about 1 year whenever things got bad I would pick it up and then it would suddenly make me think "I worked too hard to throw this all away. If I can get through a year then I really stop"

Today I finally threw away my old blade, I was having a tidy up and I came across the blade and looked and thought about how that part of my life is in the past now. I hardly ever feel tempted to cut any more and I am a lot happier with my life.
(and to be honest when I looked at it, it wasn't the cleanest blade ever, it was really rusty and unhygienic)

It's not a part of my life I can forget but I don't want to forget it. It has made me a stronger person and I am not ashamed of the fact I used to cut, if anything I am proud to say I recovered.

I wanted to share my story to help anyone who is trying to stop and I just want to say I am here for anyone who just needs some support.

You truly are an inspiration, and I hope you continue to be so to others.
Thanks for putting this up again, it gives everyone else hope that they can quit, and be happy with their life.
Go you girl!
Lou.

It's amazing that you have managed to throw your blade away. I don't think that is something I will ever be able to do, but it is something that I hope to do one day and I admire anyone who takes that step and actually gets rid of his/her blade. Good job. <3

I don't cut myself but I've talked a lot of people who have. They all seem to think that it is impossible to quite. You are living proof that while it may be hard it isn't impossible. I hope your post inspires more people to quite and encourages those who are quitting to stay strong. GREAT JOB!
