My parents are inCAPABLE of being tidy. -
October 4th 2011, 01:03 PM
( This is just a longgggg rant so I'm not actually looking for any advice, just emotional relief.)
So I'm still living with my parents, quite upsettingly, which no one in their right mind really enjoys. But I mean really. This is pissing me off so much. They were away last week and it was LOVELY, I could put something down and it was still be there two days later, I could tidy a room and still have it tidy two days later, I could take all the random shit they put on the couch OFF the couch and still be able to sit on an empty couch two days later. Then they come home and it's like there's been a small explosion of messiness. The sitting room is still marginally tidy after my clearing fananza a week ago but only because when I come home every evening I've been moving all the random newspapers and shit off the couch. Left to their own devices they would be wading through a pile of rubbish within the hour. Right now I am looking at the couch and there is a massive pile of newspapers on it,no, NO. The couch is for SITTING upon. And you do NOT keep fresh ironing on the armchair!!!!!!!Rahhh!!! I'm so frustrated I could cry!!! And the reason I'm sitting in my sitting room ranting incessantly at the poor people of TH and not getting off the bus at college to go to grammar class (or conversation or whatever it is that starts at two) is because I was supposed to leave the house at ten past 1, before dicovering that my laptop cover was nowhere to be found. I respect my laptop's dignity and refuse to bring it to college naked, so I went down to the sitting room where I'd last seen it and oh, WHAT a SURPRISE, it's not fucking there. Turned out it had been buried under fresh ironing, which as we have already discussed, SHOULD NOT BE KEPT IN THE SITTING ROOM. Anyway by this time it was way too late to bother leaving for Italian class. Also the air freshener has gone missing, why?? Why?? Where has it gone?? I was the one who bought it, to freshen some air, and now it has mysteriously disappeared, and I have a nasty feeling they have something to do with it. Hey, that air freshener cost a whole €2.97, I'll have you know. I did not buy it to be thrown away. (They don't like air freshener for...some....reason??????? Too 'unnatural' or something..?? ) And something in the sitting room smells diabolical. I mean so diabolical that I'm scared to investigate the unpacked rucksack at the bottom of the room from which the offensive odour seems to be emanating. ![]() It makes me so upset. How hard is it to be tidy?? And the disgustingly (appropriate word for this rant) ironic thing is that I'm not actually the tidiest of people myself, I mean when I'm not being lazy I can be organised, but on the whole it's not like I'm a serial tidier or anything, I mean I barely know what a coaster is, etc. I just want things to be acceptably tidy and to be able to fulfil the couches' lifelong mission, which is to be actually sat upon by bums and not by days-old Irish Times. And they've had the absolute cheek to be telling me off for not cleaning my room and the likes for the last 21 years. Rahh. Don't take life too seriously; no one gets out alive anyway. I am sorry but I am actually laughing right now. You remind me of me and my mom. Only its the other way round. And then there's my aunt. Exactly same situation as yours. Then there's this TV show where the mother-in-law is always after the poor woman asking her to clean her house! The thing is, no one in any of these situations could change the person. So either accept it beautifully or by ranting cuz you can't change who they are

My mum earlier dumped a whole load of shit in the sink earlier today, emptied some jars filled with crap in there etc. The kitchen was a mess so I thought to myself why fucking bother cleaning my glass after having a drink? There wasn't even room to fit it under the tap in the sink anyway. I just left it, went up to my room and my mum yelled at me saying I completely filled the sink with trash, saying I should clear it up.
My mum's usually alright with being tidy, it's just that we're packing at the end of the holidays. My dad though has a habit of copying pirate CDs by the tonne, and 20 years ago he'd do the same with cassets. Also prints loads of crap from the internet, about anything. He gets free paper from work so doesn't care. It's less the problem of him making a mess, more of a problem him feeling the need to keep infinite copies of shit, not throwing any of it away thinking "it might be useful". I literally stopped giving a shit. If the sofa is piled with 50 pages of some printout about birdflu from the internet, I just shovel it onto the floor. He doesn't even care when I do that. Sometimes I'd grab a load of his crap and throw it in the bins outside, so much the binman once complained it weighed too much. My dad didn't even notice his stuff was gone, instead made good use of the free space on the dining table. If you've got some spare time, read this:
