I always do the equal sign in text =)
But for some reason on the computer I do the colon.

I voted for the equal sign. =) I don't use those smileys a lot around TH, because I love our little yellow ones.
 But everywhere else, text messages especially, I use "=)"s.

I use them all. Honestly, it depends on my mood. Though, generally, : is greater than =. I use "=" sparingly. But once again, it depends on my mood. If I'm trying to avoid the hideous smileys, then I'll use the equal sign. I'll either use the equal sign, or use backwards smileys. (:
