Can you learn how to sing? -
August 27th 2011, 08:16 PM
For anone here who sings, did you have to learn and is it possible for people who sound like crap to learn how to sing? I have this dream to be able to sing, but I sound terrible. I always felt like singing was a "natural talent" you have to be born with, but some people say otherwise.

I'm not sure if you can learn to sing. I've just always been able to do it.

^This. One time I was singing (sorry this is kind of random) and my dad was like, "Your voice sounds beautiful!" I was like, "Really?!" And he was like, "... If you got about 20 years of voice lessons." Lol. But really, you may be able to sound better but not like... That much. ![]() I love : ) "Lost and insecure, you found me. Well, you can't really change your voice, but I don't think that's what you're getting at. You're voice can be beautiful, you just don't know how to make it sound that way. Teach yourself when to breathe, you're rhythm. Oh, and yes you have EXCELLENT rhythm. Everyone does. We all speak and walk and run and do just simple everyday activities with AMAZING and complex rhythm patterns. Singing is partly about embracing and using those to your advantage. It helps to be born with it, but you could probably pick it up if you really tried. Just focus on not letting your voice crack... haha.

You can improve your voice, but you have to practice often. Voice lessons are great because you learn techniques to improve your voice. I can definitely say I have improved greatly from being in choir

You can improve your voice, but you probably won't ever be as good as someone who has natural born talent.

You can have lessons which can improve your voice so you can sing just okay (not terrible but listenable). But I don't really believe you can learn to sing amazing. That you have to be born with I believe.

Where's Jenny? You can learn to sing, but pretty much the only 100% effective way is taking singing lessons from Jenny via Skype.
Haha, nah I'm just kidding - I think there is a difference between natural talent and learned talent, but I believe in both.

It depends on whether your issue is just that your voice is untrained or that you don't have a musical ear.
If you don't have a musical ear, it's going to be really hard because keeping the right pitch will be super hard. But it can be done. If you do have a musical ear and your voice is untrained, sure, singing lessons help a lot. And singing in choirs is a great way to practice and build confidence.

Like what most people said you can't change your voice. I have always sung since i was little but as years went on i learned techniques that improved the sound and made it sound better and stronger.
It could be possible you are you using harmful techniques like singing with your vocal chords. Maybe, if you really want to, take lessons and learned the correct techniques and afterwards see how you feel about singing hope i helped

Anyone can learn how to sing, but it takes work and practice to be able to sing well. Stronger voices tend to sound better, but it's hard for your voice to be very strong if you don't sing a low part. Higher voices need much more air, which can make sopranos sound very breathy if they don't have good breath-support. Try taking lessons first, and see where you can get from there. You can't change your voice, but you can make it less or more of something.
