post counts - September 23rd 2011, 08:14 AM

Do you guys feel differantly about people with a high post count (1000+)

It just seems people with less are less popular on the forums and stuff where people with high post counts are like, da bomb

Hey, I feel that way about myself too. Low post counts look noobish :P

I try not to, since every awesome person started at a low post count.

If you think about it, most of the time a large post count means they've been on the forum longer, so they're generally better known and a more familiar face.

I think that they are better known and I like getting advice from them. Sometimes I get a little jealous because I want that post count (I will someday!) but I don't think I treat people with high post counts differently! :P

It dosen't really bother me, but yeah it makes sense the more posts the more time you've been around and the more recognised you will be.

I recognize members with higher post counts more because I see them so much around the forums (which causes them to have higher post counts. ) and I guess I just go to them. I also get a bit jealous of their count but I will get up there someday.

I agree, those with higher post counts are around the forums more often than others so they will be recognized more

HAHAHAHA. I'M NOT THE ONLY JEALOUS ONE?

Same, I hope to be in the thousands one day
I'm here as often as possible, but I do have a job, and sixth form

I think it just irks me that people are like "Never seen you before" when i'm here nearly everyday apart from weekends (which sometimes I am around on)

There are people with over 1,000 posts who I come across still that I haven't seen before. It's probably because some people stick to certain areas of the forum. Anyone who goes to the Music area knows my username, but someone who frequents the Pregnancy area probably hasn't heard of me.

Re: post counts - September 23rd 2011, 01:58 PM

Post counts aren't an indication of how "awesome" someone is (surely it should be "helpful" on a site like this?), nor do they indicate how long someone has been here or how active they are.

There are quite a few people with low post counts who have been here a while and are active, but because they take the time to write out several paragraphs in each reply, they post less in terms of number.

Then there are people with high post counts who spend all day in Good Days giving out two-word replies.

So, in my opinion, a high post count doesn't automatically make someone "awesome".

Agreed! That's why I try and go everywhere.

Re: post counts - September 23rd 2011, 03:07 PM

Now, it doesn't matter to me - look, I have next to no post count, big whup. But I haven't been here for a long time and I'm not really invested in TH anymore.

However, before the big reset, back when nobody now here would have known me - I was a supermod, and had a 3000+ post count, and honestly, I was a little bit obsessed with that. I kept track of some peoples, and tried to have a higher post per day count than most people. I think partially I wanted to set a 'good example' as a higher ranking staff member and partially I just wanted to feel a little bit better than others.

I think it's normal for people to notice and care - we're a society obsessed with measuring people by numbers so we know how we stack up. For some people that will come out in weight comparison, or income comparison, but here pretty much all you've got to go on is how many posts someone has got...

I completely agree. It bugs me, because people are obviously trying to get their post count up.
I used to post a lot in the good day forum, but always said a lot more than "good job!". I always try to make my posts mean something. Because it's kind of a let down when someone is like "oh. Cool" on your thread.

But yeah, post count is a just a number. the higher you are, the more active you are.
But it doesn't mean your more popular..

Wow, Jas I never knew you were Xamed!! :O Come to think of it I never see your name now and used to see it ALL the time...in my head I pronounce it much differently to what it's apparently supposed to be.

Hey Jas! I'm about to send you a message on Facebook - I'm moving to England (if the paperwork gets approved) next year, we should talk.

Yep, that was me. I can't believe you remember who welcomed you! I hope I was helpful... Well, it's nice to meet you again and see you've come full circle - in the few weeks I've been lurking around on here again I see you everywhere.

I don't have a different opinion of people with higher post counts. Typically, people with higher post counts have been on the site longer or are more active.

I have a high(ish) post count yet I don't consider myself to be 'popular'. I've just been here a long time and have times where i'm more active and times that i'm not.

I remember the both of you, back in the day, and I am almost positive I am was terrified of you two.

Post counts are competitions for a ton of people here. I use to compete for the highest a long time ago and gave up with it before leaving TH awhile ago. Now that I'm back, I don't care what my post count is. It does get irritating though, when people only say "good luck" "congrats".

My life too. Nooo, no one from TH has me on facebook!!(well, two do.) My name is a secret But yes, I always read it as being pronounced 'Zah-med' although once there was a username-pronunciation thread and I'm pretty sure I was wrong!! I only ever remember users by their usernames so I get so confused when they change!!

Me? Post count? heck no! Haha, I tend to creep blogs (which doesn't count on my post count :P), and a lot of the staffies know each other pretty well, and we tend to talk to people we know really well and write long responses. So, yeah. That is my INCREDIBLE opinion. hahahah :P
