N. Korea "Missle" - April 5th 2009, 02:48 AM

Article Link

What do you guys think about the whole situation? Is Obama's response what you would like to see - do you find it appropriate?

I'm curious to see how others feel. I personally feel like I would be entirely lost on a situation like this, and I suppose I'd have to know more about it to actually make a good call. I trust Obama, whether I should or no

It's illegal for countries the US doesn't like to launch missiles

It's also important to note that there are thousands of US and South Korean troops on their border

"AMERICA! F*** YEAH!"
Team America was funny in a movie, not so much in real life. While I'm definitely not FOR nuclear missiles, I'd much rather NO country have them than one country use theirs to stop other countires from having them.
Obama's response seems much more diplomatic than that of previous administrations, though. The quotation from the Guardian was basically just "hey, guys, you're just making yourselves the bad guys again! Please just stop these missiles. Then we can be friends." Now, whether that's true or not is another issue entirely...

Here is a link to an article after the missile was launched. My personally opinion, well, honestly I'm at a lose on this one. Hopefully the U.N. will play nice, Japan is alright since it didn't hit their territory. But it is a violation of U.N. Security Council Resolution 1718, which is wordy, but says basically that they can't shoot ballistic missiles. So, I'm rather curious of how the U.N. will handle this.

But, uh, Pearl Harbour happened while Japan was already actively at war... We're not in an open war. N. Korea's gonna wait a while before it actually attacks anybody, especially with the US and just about the rest of the Western world knocking on their border doors.

Missile? No. Torpedoes and Bombs, and the occasional suicide ramming.

But thats off subject.

Other than the fact that North Korea has a militaristic government with an egotistical Napoleonic leader at the reigns, with the ability to sooner than later create feasible nuclear weaponry and delivery systems; why should we worry? Let them have their nukes and missiles. Who are we to prevent Armageddon?

Often I lie wide awake, thinking of things I could make.
But I donít seem to have the parts to build them.
I am so scared of what will kill me in the end, for I am not prepared.
I hope I will get the chance to be someone, to be human.

Apparently they've launched a rocket. Read about it here. This situation is really starting to scare me.

You don't know that. Those are unconfirmed reports. Until traces of the rocket are recovered, satellite and radar data are processed, or other observations are made, we can't know exactly what happened to it or what was on it.

For those of you who are worried this could start a war, let me remind you that North Korea and South Korea are still technically at war, holding from a cease-fire in 1953 (I'm fairly sure that's the year, feel free to correct me).

Regardless of whether the launch was a success or not, it proved a valuable point for Kim Jong Il. It showed that he's not afraid to defy international pressure in order to achieve his own means. This is more of a display of defiance than provocation.
