Moon landing: 40th anniversary - July 18th 2009, 12:32 PM

As we all know, this coming Monday will be the 40th anniversary of the day Neil Armstrong first step foot on the moon, to speak those humble words that will be forever etched into the memory of people who watched at the time, and a story that will no doubt be passed on from generation to generation.

It's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap ..for mankind

Anyone who knows the story regarding this will be aware that due to recording equipment at the time only having basic capabilities and due to Neil's accent, it is unclear as to whether or not he said the 'a'.

Another interesting fact you may or may not be aware of is that Neil Armstrong has refused to undertake any form of interview since the moon landing, claiming that one man can not and should not be acknowleged for the event. He prefers to think of it as a team effort, which I think is quite honourable of the man. However, its also been said that he could make $1 million dollars just from an afternoon of signing autographs. If this is true, would it not be a good thing to do this and give the money to a charity?

Monday will be a truly grand day for space lovers, universe enthusiasts and philosophical thinkers the world over.

i saw some programme today which basically said the whole thing is made up! they said that stuff like the shadows not falling in the right places could indicate the whole thing was fake.

Conspiracy theories are entertaining.

Re: Moon landing: 40th anniversary - July 18th 2009, 08:38 PM

I can assure you that the moon landing was not faked lol

The flag waving just seemed to be waving. It was infact strengthened with steel fibres to make it look more like a flag.

The shadows falling in the wrong places are due to the inadequate video equipment used at the time and the way the earth moves in the way of the sun. Shadows on the moon would fall differently than they do on earth due to the tilt of the moons axis being different, its position at the time in orbit and so forth.

Another popular one was who filmed Neil armstrong walking onto the moon? This was infact a second shot taken by Buzz Aldrin, and the first time that Neil said the famous words ... meaning that when he did the first walk, he may have said something completely different.

Anotherr one was that Neil armstrong said Good luck, in reference to his previous neighbour when he was a kid .. as the neighbours wife had promised the man sex when the 'kid next door walks on the moon'. This was infact a rumour and has been de-bunked by neil himself.

i'm not convinced. you weren't there.. so how do you know that they actually went to the moon? i know they say that theres rocks or something that they brought back that definitely aren't from earth. but those scientists could just be lying. i don't claim to know anything about this.. in fact i actually referred to that buzz guy as buzz lightyear the other day.

With that type of logic, how do you know that the Holocaust happened? You weren't actually there, so you don't know for certain.

There's always going to be those conspiracy theorists out there twisting facts and such in order to prove their false imaginations. Some people can't accept truth.

Even so, I'm sure scientists could land on the moon....There sufficient evidence to show that they DID land on the moon, and CAN do it...

lol I remember a few years ago when my mom's boyfriend said he didn't believe man had ever landed on the moon. I thought he was joking! Then I looked it up online and there is a whole group designated to the disbelief. I am very sure that we have landed on the moon, but it's not a bad thing to question the information we're given from time to time.

So the only way you can be convinced (of anything?) is if you are physically there witnessing the event? Is evidence not enough?

Are the 9/11 attacks a conspiracy too? How about JFK's assassination and global warming: conspiracies and fraud as well?

All these conspiracy theories...all bull. Saying you're not convince that we landed on the moon is a spat in the face of human progress and the astronauts who went up there. There are various museums, college universities and space centers across the U.S. that have the moon rocks collected 40 years ago. You'd think someone would have detected that something wrong if these moon rocks were actually fake.

ATTENTION: DEFINITIVE PROOF OF MOON LANDING

http://news.aol.com/article/apollo-landing-sites-spotted-by-lunar/577205?icid=main|main|dl1|link3|http%3A%2F%2Fnews. aol.com%2Farticle%2Fapollo-landing-sites-spotted-by-lunar%2F577205

I believe Buzz Aldrin is quoted as saying, "Boom shaka, lacka lacka lacka"

Often I lie wide awake, thinking of things I could make.
But I donít seem to have the parts to build them.
I am so scared of what will kill me in the end, for I am not prepared.
I hope I will get the chance to be someone, to be human.

no i'm not saying 9/11 is a fraud as well.. neither am i saying the holocaust is. if you read my post you'd see that i said i'm not sure that it's all true.. not that it never happened.

i'm not even saying man definitely didn't go to the moon.. i was just bringing up one of the conspiracy theories from a programme i watched. i myself know fuck all about sciencey moony planety stuff.

Only there are programs and "evidence" that the 9/11 attacks were caused by the government, and the same for global warming being a myth. Nonetheless, 99.9% of evidence in conspiracy theories are just plain wrong, misleading, or are used to draw the wrong conclusion.

I can guarantee you that all the evidence on that program you watched have already been refuted and proven wrong by scientists.
