Stem cells can be harvested from umbilical cords, not just fetuses so hopefully we develop a machine that can cheaply obtain umbilical cords at every hospital, so they can be utilized for fighting cancer and whatnot.

Like I said on your other post...
I am against stem cell research using cells obtained by the murder of human beings in the earliest stages of their lives. But have no problem with stem cell research using stem cells from other sources.

Re: stem cells - September 27th 2009, 08:21 PM

Stem cell research could save lives.
I plan on donating the umbilical cord for stem cells when I have a child in the future, it doesn't get used otherwise and I think that is just a waste.
Even with abortions I think it is still right. If someone if going to get an abortion then I think if the stem cells can save lives they why waste them. The baby/foetus whatever you chose to call it will be aborted no matter what if that is the decision made, so you might as well save another persons life with the stem cells.

Stem cells might be able to do so much that we couldn't do before.

Stopping stem cell research won't stop abortions. Abortions happen anyways, might as well put it to use.

Re: stem cells - September 27th 2009, 09:35 PM

I agree that abortions are going to happen no matter what. Saying no to stem cell research is not going to do anything for the pro-life cause. I don't want to sound harsh here but the fetus/unborn baby (whatever people want to call it) is going to, basically, be thrown out. If we can learn something or help save lives why not use them. Why let something that could help millions go to waste?

I get the controversy over it but in the end isn't saving millions of lives important? We have the potential to save lives and right or wrong using aborted fetuses could help that. If stem cell research was going to encourage more people to get abortions than I could see the negative side but I feel that it is not going to cause people to go out and get an abortion or anything like that.

I don't see the problem with stem cell research. It's not like people are getting pregnant just to abort the babies so that they can use the stem cells.

I totally support it. The things that could come from stem cell research are amazing and could change so many people's lives.

I support stem cell research because of the immense information it can provide for us which can lead to better cures for various diseases.

As for the reference to abortions, I consider that to be unrelated because even if you ban stem cell research, abortions will continue unless you ban those too. The way I look at it is that stem cell research can provide another usage from abortions other than simply disposing of it. At least with stem cell research, instead of disposing of the dead fetus, it can be put to some other, some better use.

I agree with you completely It's not like people are having abortions simply to donate stem cells either.

I'm very for this. It's a way of saving lives, and I hope some day to be using the research myself. If a person didn't want their child at that given time, the least they could do is donate the foetus for bettering the lives of others, a selfless act from perhaps a more selfish one.
