Question about Mayor Wanna - February 8th 2010, 05:32 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of substance use, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread might therefore not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

When my sister started doing marijuana, I was always there to be on her case. It's the reason why she hasn't told me about the other stuff that she's done. I used to be a lot worse, but when my sister was caught smoking marijuana in the girl's bathroom and suspended from school, I had a good laugh and just decided to let her make her own choices and laugh at her when something bad happens. Ever since then, I've been wondering why I'm so against marijuana in the first place. I have concluded that the only reason why I'm against marijuana has nothing to do with the pro's and con's, but just because I don't like it, therefore I am highly against it.

My question to you is:

Is it acceptable to be highly against marijuana just because you're highly against marijuana? Or ANY drug for that matter?

(though I'm mostly just talking about marijuana because that's a bigger topic of interest).

This may seem like a stupid question, but if you think about it...weighing in the evidence that supports marijuana not being bad (though evidence can easily be countered with evidence that goes against marijuana), do you think that just being against something because you don't like (and I don't mean taste bad or anything like, I'm talking about an extreme hatred to even the THOUGHT of smoking marijuana) is a legit excuse to be against it in the first place?

Yes/no? Why or why not?

I would consider it perfectly acceptable. All drugs distort mind, cause unpredictable behaviour and ultimately change a person entirely (their priorities, their life, the way they think)

And I say all of this from experience. To hate the thought of it is fine, and we're pretty much taught to feel that way anyways. I felt the same way when my own sister started experimenting with drugs. I felt sort of 'betrayed' in a way because I was not good enough, nor was anyone in her life, to have her just enjoy her life the way it is-- she felt reason to distort it and see it as it isn't. My respect for her dropped because I see substance abuse as a flaw in character-- you are not an interesting enough person to be witty, or have fun by your self, you need the help of chemical stimulants. I felt confused-- I did not know what else she was doing, who she was doing it with or why. And I felt sort of alone-- like I couldn't trust her anymore, or believe she was who she was before. And low and behold, she did change. It went from marijuana to hiding acid in the family fridge, all while skillfully lying to my mum who always proudly professed how clean and good she was. It's a terrible cycle.

So summary- yes, it is perfectly acceptable. Though I have a lot more reasons, I hate the drugs as well.

I love the name of honour more than I fear death.
