Sweet! Cops arrest teen in $37,000 candy con - February 10th 2009, 03:30 PM

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29118042/

An Ohio teenager allegedly tried to pull off a sweet deal by ordering more than $37,000 of candy online and charging the bill to his former high school.

Police say the 18-year-old used a Middletown High School purchasing number to place orders for thousands of lollipops and candy bars from Michigan-based The Goodies Factory. It wasn't clear how he accessed the number.

The candy company became suspicious, contacted the school and was told by detectives to send an empty box.

Police say he had the order shipped to his home and was arrested after the fake delivery.

The teen faces two counts of felony telecommunications fraud. He was being held in Middletown City Jail on more than $30,000 bond.

If you get a bunch of money what's the first thing to do? Buy candy! ... Definately not the brightest of moves.

He should have had it dropped off at the school.

No, he should have ordered less at once.

What a silly thing to do.

Rule 1: Leave no trace.

Using a real address is stupid. You choose an abandoned location (or a PO box in a false name) and watch the area activity. Then you make the order, and again watch the area activity for a few days after it's been delivered. Any significant changes such as police presence means you cut your losses and get out of there.

Although, that would be a bit much for candy, even if it was worth $37k

Shipping stuff is an easy way to get caught. Leaving it outside is stupid. Sending it to someone else's house in hopes of grabbing it before they get home is stupid. Sending it to a fake p.o. box is stupid if you want to reclaim it.

Why would a school order so much candy and to someone elses house too? They are just dumb.

You're welcome. Just promise me you won't try to take any from a baby. It's just evil and useless - your ears will start bleeding before the baby gives it up to you.

why would you spend $37K on candy anyway? why not spend the money on something more useful, or at least more fun.
