Ew, that is so disgusting. I don't think the main problem is that they have them, the main problem is that there are parents who would actually let their children wear them. Since people are stupid and would actually buy this, they shouldn't be on the market at all. Why would you even want to wear that at eight, though? I didn't even wear a training bra at eight, I hated them. xD

Blame it on the media, they just want to follow what their "disney" stars do.

reminded me of the miley cyrus show I stumbled on hulu ... saw some of her performance ... and there were kids ... little kids in the audience ... seeing her show. In my opinion little kids shouldn't be watching that stuff yet.

Let alone wear padded bras ... I'm not buying one for my kid when I have kids let me tell you.

There was something similar to this in the UK. Where the store Primark was selling padded bikini tops aged 7-8 (and possibly smaller). I think it's ridiculous. Young girls already have a hard enough time with their self image, make it worse why don't you!

there have been bras in America for children that young for a LONG time....
When I was 8/9 I started getting boobs... and my nipples showed through my shirts.

So I even wore these padded bras.

I remember the days when they had training bras, UNPADDED, for girls who developed early. I started developing when I was around 9, and my bras weren't padded, but still worked!
There is absolutely no excuse for them to make padded bras for young girls. They have enough self-confidence issues as is, and expecting to have a bust starting at 8 is ridiculous.

Re: 8 year olds and bras :S - June 22nd 2010, 01:53 AM

Petey, the linked article shows it as an actual padded bra. Pretty similar to the type they'd sell to WOMEN. Its labelled as being for pre-teens, which is between 10-12. And the company has been accused of selling these bras to girls as young as 7.

Also, reading the article, the company has had complaints directed to them before, including trying to sell a pole-dancing kit for children. So this particular company seems to be trying to sexualize young girls, which is disgusting.

It didn't say they sold the pole dancing kit to children, but that they sold one and people said that having one in the store would run the moral of children. Bunch of bull.

Anyway, that bra looks normal to me. It's not a push-up bra, so what's the problem? One of my friends developed at around eight. I developed you. The padding keeps your nipples from showing, and the bras are nearly invisible, you can't tell someone is wearing them often. I actually think it's weird when a 10-12 year old isn't wearing a training bra or sports bra. Because a lot of them need them. Also, seven is young, but kids are developing younger, and some kids do develop that young.

Well.... that's just more than just a bit creepy. And wrong. Eight-year-old girls are supposed to have fun doing little kid things, not thinking about sex and looking "attractive". And any parent who actually buys this for their daughter obvious has issues.

See, when I was developing, at 9, the training bras weren't like that. THAT does NOT look like a training bra. THAT looks pretty much like what is sold in Lingerie Shops!

This is what training bras looked like when I was in that age group. They did the job perfectly fine, and yet didn't look sexualized. They didn't have that kind of padding, they just had thicker fabric to avoid the nipples showing.

It is possible for 8 year olds to be developing breasts, the age of starting puberty is actualy getting really young, if an 8 year old is starting to develope breasts, then for obvious reasons they should be wearing bras, they could be slightly padded, but not huge. Thats just wrong.

Why padded? Just buy a normal one. You don;t need big boobs at 8 or 10.

I don't really see the problem with it. It's just a white padded bra. Girls are developing breasts so much younger these days. A training bra might not be suitable for many of them. And as Petey and Casey already said, the padding keeps your nipples from showing through. It's not necessarily about making your breasts look bigger.

I think assuming that this is made to sexualise young girls is kinda jumping to conclusions. It's not like it's a black, lacy, see-through bra that comes with a matching g-string. I don't see how making bras for young girls means that we're making them worry about how they look.

It's not a flame war. I don't think I've ever seen a thread in this section where everyone agreed which is why I like debates, nice to see other peoples viewpoints.

I don't actually think it's that bad though. Like a few others have said some girls just develop earlier than others. I personally didn't start until I was about 10. My mum wouldn't buy me bras then either because she thought I was "too young" Trust me when I say I needed one.

Re: 8 year olds and bras :S - June 22nd 2010, 10:12 AM

It's not bad that it's padded. Triange padded bras are fine I think because they're flat against the chest. But by the look of the photo on that link, it's a shaped bra. Making it look a lot more womanly than I think an 8 year old should look. My younger cousin is 12, and she has only recently started to wear proper bras. And even now they're only triangle shaped, or flat ones. All with padding, but none to make you look shapely and womanly, with larger breasts than you have. It's all too much for an 8 year old.

I wouldn't deny that media is a major influence, but it isn't the only factor. It's still up to the parents to allow it or not.

Ugh Whole heartedly disapprove. I find it sick.

And it's really feckin' annoying, how someone can't walk the streets, and pass by one of those 13 year olds with their padded up bras and breasts hanging out without them being like "OMG EVERY1 IZ LOOKIN AT ME BOOBS"... Get a hold of yourself, kiddos!

The sexualisation of children went too far long ago!!!
How did we come to this?
I've seen similar things, and I find it rather disturbing, seriously who comes up with this stuff?
Paedophiles?

you don't need a padded bra when you're 8, it's pretty ridiculous. they'll probably get pulled like many other items have been before from other shops. wasn't it primark who were trying to sell playboy stuff to little kids? hmm.

I started getting breasts at 8 but I didn't start wearing padded bras till 12 or so... but i needed it, i was a B already... I agree that this is not cool... young girls need training bras... my thicker ones did just fine for a long time. Plus the bra in the picture IS plunge style, making it possible for the young girls to wear low cut tops without anyone seeing her bra... so, in my opinion, they should take it off the shelves. I blame the parents more though for letting their 7 year olds wear something like that.

Seven is not "Almost growing up." For crying out loud. People wonder why we have over sexulized kids. Hiding sex from kids is one thing. Trying to make 7-8 year olds look like they have a chest is quite another. This is making little girls grow up way before they need to. It's sick.

If a girl truly develops that young then they can get a normal A or AA cup. If their moms want to prepare them they can get training bras. They certainly don't need padded bras.

Let kids be kids.
