ACLU Suing School District For Expelling Girl With Nose Ring - October 6th 2010, 08:13 PM

Continued from this thread:

The ACLU is now suing the school district involved for violation of freedom of religion for repeatedly suspending and then expelling the 14-year-old girl from her high school for the year for wearing a nose-ring which is part of her "faith".

Yeah, I looked at the website for her "faith," and how in the hell is that a religion?

I just read an article about this. I was like..huh? Church of Body Modification? Super confused.
I mean, I guess if it's an actual religion then they should respect it, but they were just following school policy really. And I don't know if I would take someone seriously if they told me they were part of the church of body modification, not in a disrespectful way, just because it kind of sounds like something some silly kid would come up with to get away with wearing their body piercings at school.
Personally, I don't see the big deal w/ tiny body piercings like nose rings being worn in public schools.
As far as the suing goes, I'm not really surprised. And I guess they have every right. I just think people try to solve too much by suing these days.

Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance.

Suing solves nothing except making yourself look like a bad human being.

This is just foolish I cannot imagine her winning this case. Schools have the right to enforce dress codes and the piercing is not allowed for safety reasons, as most jewelry is. School is supposed to get these kids ready for the real world no religious belief is going to allow you to wear a nose piercing in almost any job. How about the Church of Cell phone, where I have to use my cell phone during class because my religion tells me, create a religion every time you do not agree with the rules and hope you can avoid them.

Everyone is born right-handed. Only the greatest overcome it.
