I think the thing unfair about it, as in so many other similar cases, is that the kids are just doing an innocent thing to try to raise money, and then stopped because they do not have permits, which they are unable to legally obtain because either the filing fee is too expensive and/or they are under the legal age to obtain a permit in the first place. Remember the girl and the lemonade stand case?

Yeah! These 13 year old kids need a permit to sell cupcakes, because otherwise... THEY BROKE THE LAW!! I don't care that they're only 13, or that they're only trying to raise a little money, IT'S ILLEGAL SO THEY SHOULD BE PUNISHED.

I don't see the problem? They broke the law and I'm pretty sure there isn't an age limit for the law.
If the children are old enough to want money and try earning via selling things then they're old enough to go through the proper procedures and do it properly.

It would be a differen't matter entirely if they were doing it for charity.

Re: Politician Calls Police On Boys Selling Cupcakes - November 18th 2010, 02:00 PM

I find it strange that a politician has nothing better to do than to call the cops on some kids selling cupcakes, then gets a pat on the back for doing the right thing because 'it's the law'. Just because it's the law doesn't mean it's right. Although I agree that in this case the law seems just, many laws are NOT just and therefore the sentiment that 'it's the law' always bugs me. Just my two cents.

Are you kidding? WHY DO YOU NEED LEGAL PROCEDURES TO SELL CUPCAKES FOR FUCKS SAKE? Is this really where the world is going?! "I'm sorry sir, but if you want to enter a shop, you have to sign this." "If you want to use the pavement, you have to sign this."
What the hell is wrong with this world..

I agree it's really silly to need a permit to sell something as small and petty as cupcakes. I really don't understand the law...

Why should the law apply to some but not apply to other? When does something become worthy enough of needing a permit? Jeezus =/

Yeah this is what I was thinking. If it doesn't apply to them, then will it apply to 14 year olds? 15 year olds? Where does the age limit being? How long can we bend and break the law?

Actually, you should be upset with whoever voted on that law, not the politician. The politician was simply following the law.

Bullshit. Nobody forced him to report him. It's like 1984, thought police everywhere to turn you in the moment you do something wrong.
