Steve Jobs Resigns as Apple CEO, Tim Cook Named New CEO

Fucking huge news. I really hope this isn't to do with Steve's health, and if so I hope he gets better. He, and Apple, truly revolutionised the entire tech world for the better, and changed the world for the better.

It's worth noting that he'll still be working at Apple! He's becoming Chairman of the Board so he'll still have a fair amount of influence and control over what goes on.

Also worth saying that Tim Cook is a great guy. He's basically run Apple since 2005 anyway, and so Apple really is in capable hands. I'm also very, very interested to see what he can bring to the table in terms of philosophy - Steve was very 'authoritarian' and it got results that many would claim are amazing, and I'm interested to see if Tim has a different philosophy.

Of course it's for medical reasons he has been on medical leave for most of this year I hope he lives many more years to come.

Thanks, now I can buy it cheap and then watch as, within 6 months, it becomes worth diamonds! ;)

This isn't going to do anything to the Apple stocks long-term. Steve Jobs has been having medical issues for a long time, so this isn't really any surprise. And considering he's staying as the chairman, I don't think this is going to change at Apple.

I second this.

Most of those that read this would know Steve's had a few health issues, which I'm sure he'll work through. Tim Cook is a capable guy, and the only thing you'll really see that'll impact the stocks are changes in corporate policy and structure, if it changes at all. Steve's seen great results from all of his work, maybe Tim will continue on with those views and hopefully he might intertwine some of his own philosophy. That'd be quite interesting.

Just to give everyone a heads up, he was CEO and Chairmen, so all he's done is dropped the CEO position... Which I fear is due to his health. :(

Steve Jobs had to step down, his health is failing and he can't be as active as he was in Apple. It's good to have change sometimes and the stocks will raise rather quickly. Steve was not Apple, he was just a piece of Apple.

Sad to see him go on health grounds, and he clearly played a significant role in Apple's resurgence from the brink. However, I'll be happy if this spells an end to Apple's recent litigation frenzy, of which Jobs seemed to be one of the major playmakers. Taking out patents for things you can't even patent (concepts rather than actual designs, for example) and using the courts to stifle competition leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, and the sooner that goes the better.
