I'll never forget this day as long as I live.

I was 11 and in the sixth grade. I was sitting at home, at the kitchen table eating breakfast when we got word of the towers being hit. I think I watched both towers go down, but this part I can't remember.

In class, I know we watched a lot of the news footage, actual footage and a lot of updates. We didn't do much in class that day.

Re: Where were you? - September 9th 2011, 05:38 PM

I was 8 years old in the third grade. I remember going to school that morning and before my teacher began class she told us the U.S. Pentagon had been attacked. I had no idea what she was talking about. When I came home I saw all the news coverage about the twin towers, but still had no idea what was really going on. I did pose a little interest since it happened in New York and that's where I'm originally from. The more news coverage I watched the more I began to learn and understand what happened and the seriousness of all the events that happened, and that's when I believe my paranoia started. Everytime a plane flew over my house I would cry and freak out that I was going to die.

Re: Where were you? - September 9th 2011, 06:16 PM

I was 10 and in class and I saw my principal go to all the classrooms and whisper something to each teacher, which then we watched our teachers panic and some cry. It was very sad. That same day, my dad was supposed to be on the flight to New York, but was late. So, after school, I got off the bus and walked up to the door and saw all my dad's suitcases in the hall and just hugged him. That night we all sat and watched the news for hours.

Re: Where were you? - September 9th 2011, 10:15 PM

I was in school, on either our first or second day back (think it was second). I remember hearing people vaguely talking about planes flying into buildings and some people being quite distressed about it, but in my adolescent naivety I treated the claims with disdain and thought it was just a wind-up. Quite embarrassing in hindsight, but probably triggered by the fact that most people were still unaware of it and those who had found out had a reputation for practical jokes. It was only when I got back home and caught the end of a BBC News special about it that the reality of it all truly hit me. Suffice it to say, the following day was rather subdued.

Re: Where were you? - September 9th 2011, 10:22 PM

I was 13 in my 8th grade history class when they finally announced it around 1PM (something about not inciting panic) they then told us the times that the towers and the pentgon had been hit. I don't remember if they said anything about flights 11 and 93, but I'm guessing they must have. Then they told us not to panic, we were all safe and not to call or ask to call anyone and that our daily study hall would be used to watch the footage. After the announcement the teacher said "we are living history right now, someday you will see this in your history books" or something similar to that, I know the second half is correct. He also said that we would always remember where we were that day and then he told us how he remembered the Kenedy assasination as an example. Then there was a girl who started freaking out and he had to calm her down and people were crying and scared. I even remember which seat I was in (second row, second seat) and I still get chills when I think about it.

Re: Where were you? - September 9th 2011, 10:24 PM

I was 12 years old, in band class in middle school (7th grade). A man in a black suit came into our classroom and pulled our band director outside and spoke with him for almost 10 minutes. When he came back into the room, and, with tears in his eyes, he told us what had happened. He then asked us to play the National Anthem before putting our instruments away. Our principal then came over the intercom and informed everyone of the attacks and asked us all to bow our heads for a moment of silence. After the attack on the pentagon later on, we had another moment of silence. For the rest of the day, none of my teachers actually taught during class. We watched the news all day long and discussed the impact. Our school community has never shown so much patriotism as they did on that day.

I was in my fourth grade classroom when it happened, at around 10AM the principal came on the intercom with the announcement "attention all teachers, do not turn on your televisions, I repeat do not turn on your tvs". I did not learn about the attacks until they did early dismissal around 12:30PM where there was an annoucement that due to a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center that the school district was temporarily suspending operations. Then when the school bus dropped me off at home I first saw the images on CNN.

In my 8th grade social studies class. Remember being scared. I was in 1st period and we always had the Today show on the first few minutes of class. We were the first in the building to know about it. The school went on lock down.

Re: Where were you? - September 10th 2011, 02:43 AM

I was in 2nd grade. I guess I was 7 at the time, as I have a December birthday.

My school never told me what was going on, my mother came and ate lunch with me and my brother (not an unusual occurrence, she just usually told us when she was going to) but let us stay at school the entire day. Classes continued normally, though many kids were picked up and taken home. My teachers never spoke of it, and we were never shown any pictures or television about it. I guess they figured we were too young.

When I got home my parents showed me the two towers burning and told me that bad men had hit them with airplanes and people were scared.

I was 6 at the time and I was in my kitchen in my old house. Someone called my mom and told her so she brought a small TV in the kitchen and we watched the towers fall. I remember feeling this horrible sense of shock when I saw them fall. I couldn't believe that it was happening. I knew what the Twin Towers were since my mom had talked about how she had been in them before.

7th grade, I was 12. We were never told in our school. I think this was because I attended a private school, so our school held K-8th grade students. Some kids were too young to learn and I guess they thought it was best to just keep everyone in the dark. Whether it was the right call or not, I dunno. But we weren't dumb, we knew something really bad happened because alot of kids were taken out of school and our teacher just started to break down crying at one point. My dad told me when he picked me up.

It was my sister's birthday too...Was a bit awkward I remember.

I was at home, I think. I don't really remember it much. I was only young at the time - it didn't hold any significance for me, because I didn't understand.

I was in history class, in 5th class. It happened at about ten to two our time,so no one really heard about it til we finished class at 2.25. In the car on the way home my mum told me things were a bit chaotic because a plane had crashed into a skyscraper in America (one I'd never heard of.) It didn't mean a lot to me because I didn't really know how big this was until it took over the news for the next days. I was nearly eleven.

I was about 6 when I first heard. I was at school when it happened, and I remember coming home to see the TV on the news about it. My mum had gotten a phone call from my god father saying to turn on the news, and when she did she watched the towers fall. I know my mum always says she will never forget watching that because of watching the second tower get hit i think.

I was in school and throughout the day we'd been hearing things but it wasn't clear what had actually happened, I just knew it was something big and serious. It was towards the end of the day that I found out and through all of last period and walking home my friend was trying to get hold of her Dad who lives over there.

Re: Where were you? - September 10th 2011, 05:08 PM

I was 12, and we were in computer class. All of the sudden a bunch of teachers ran in talking to each other about something hitting the World Trade Centers. So of course our 12 year old reactions were to immediately go on to the World Trade Center website which was down by that point. Eventually they moved a TV out in to our little common area (it was a very small school) and we started watching footage. I believe by that time both planes had hit. I remember them falling. I also remember making talking with my friends (we were annoyed the school wasn't letting us outside for lunch) about how if a plane were to hit a building by us it would be better if we were outside so we could see it and run. Again we were 12.

I was 5, and all I remember is coming home from school, and seeing my mum had tears down her face, and neither of my parents would tell me why. But then I went in the other room and saw a repeating new item thing with footage from the twin towers. I didn't really understand, but thinking about it now makes me feel really ill.

I was 7 years old and I was at school. My mom came and picked my sister and me up early. I didn't really understand what had happened because I was young but I did know that a lot of people lost their lives and I felt much sympathy for the people who lost their loved ones.

I must've been around 12 years old at the time. My friend's uncle was near the buildings when everything went down and his leg got crushed by a piece of debris as he was trying to get away from the building. Even to this day he still walks with a limp because of it.

Man I tell ya, I cant imagine being there when that actually happened. Especially to be one of those poor individuals that were on the planes themselves. Its a horrible thing to happen to our country and humanity on the whole.

My best wishes goes out to all those who were effected by this event.

In kindergarten class. My sister went to a state technical high school so they were freaking out over there. My mom then picked up my sister and then me and took us home. I only really learned exactly what happened a few years back while watching the History channel and I cried my eyes out.

Re: Where were you? - September 11th 2011, 04:25 AM

I was at home, coming down stairs for school. I saw the news, but had no idea how big of a deal it was. One plane was in a tower. I thought it was a large building and an accident. Tragic, but nothing major.

I got to school...and the teachers were all in shock. Our teacher was going from classroom to classroom, trying to figure out if they were allowed to have the tv on or not. We had ISTEP testing that day.

Never got to it. My teacher finally decided to let us see it. And she turned it on when a replay of the towers crashing came on. Someone immediately pointed out people were jumping.

And immediately I knew it was worse than I thought. Then they talked about it being terrorists and suddenly about half my school had gone home. The day wouldn't count against us. I stayed at school.

Turns out three of my teachers knew people in the towers or planes. Also turns out my cousin was on one of the planes with 7 friends. After a couple hours of worry, we found out she canceled the last minute. She just hadn't wanted to go...but her friends went.

So, yeah. Horrible day. And horrible day every anniversary.

So you have gray hair and you're only 26

that's just another reason I love you...
