Urban OS: "Smart cities get their own operating system" -
September 30th 2011, 08:23 PM
I stumbled across an article on the BBC News website which I thought may be of interest to fellow TeenHelpers:
BBC News - Smart cities get their own operating system There's more on the company behind it, Living PlanIT, here. Thoughts? "The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall." - Nelson Mandela, Long Walk to Freedom
However bleak things seem, however insurmountable the darkness appears, remember that you have worth and nothing can take that away. ![]() |

Looks incredible! Unfortunately I also can't help but see the potential for an Orwellian state with this.
I thought about you for the rest of the day. Catching my head turning to find you again. I hated myself for it. |

I do see what you mean - the potential for exploitation is immense. I suppose the best way to prevent that is to limit the functionality of the devices linking into the OS, but then that needs some kind of supervisory body as well and you're getting into the whole "who watches the watchmen" problem. Alternatively, just make sure no political entity gets their mits anywhere near it...
