Question Would Jesus have been a democrat or a republican? - March 29th 2009, 03:33 AM

Just curious to see your answers.

I personally think he would have been an independent, because both parties have faults.

Assumption (faulty but roll with it): what is said in the bible is true

He'd have been on the left since he believed in sharing wealth and not in personal gain. It would be nearer socialism than capitalism which, with my rudimentary knowledge of US politics, would be the Democrats

Here he would probably be a Liberal Democrat or Old Labour

I highly doubt that Jesus would choose a political party, although I do believe he would be liberal for the sake of distributing wealth and helping the "little guy".

But generally, democrats are for abortion. Which, I think He would have been against.

Probably, he recognised humility. Not to mention the OP explicitly states Democrat or Republican

He'd probably see himself as being above any political party...
Or he'd just start his own

And call it Christianity. In this respect he has done what only the Politburo (Soviet Union party) has come even remotely close to - ruling over international borders

This is not coming off as an attack, it's just a simple answer. He didn't even join in with the parties when He was on Earth so I would say no.

I think Jesus would have been more of a liberal if he even belonged to a party. He might have thought that political parties were unholy or something.

I agree that he wouldn't join a political party, but would have had liberal tendencies. I do find it odd that most Christians are very conservitive though. I wonder why that is.

If i'm not restricted by these two, i'd have to agree with Lee that some form of Socialism or communism would make sense,
i mean he would be the perfect being, absent of greed and all that, so he could get the perfect "theoretical" government to work

I don't know. I don't think he would have cared. He might have drew a line in the sand and ask who wanted to be on his side? :P

He would be a liberal considering the fact that he faced a lot of criticism from the traditional communities which today are represented by Republicans trying to keep "traditional values". They hate change, they want everything the same, etc. A lot of people were of afraid of Jesus because he was bringing that change.

And the Bible doesn't mention anything about abortion. The only reason people claim that is because you can derive ANY meaning out of the Bible. That is how slave owners claimed that the Bible supported slavery.

If I have to choose democrat or republican, I'd say democrat.

Jesus was liberal, and progressive in his attitudes. He wouldnt be a complete democrat morally, but I assume he'd agree with seperation of church and state.
