Figure Haunts Scottish Castle - March 30th 2009, 01:26 AM

http://news.aol.com/article/scottish...ghost%2F402383

The figure peers down silently from an upper floor of the ruins of a Scottish castle, wearing what looks like an outfit from the Middle Ages. Could this be a long-dead Scottish earl, or just a random, modern-day visitor?
The eerie image is captured in a photograph taken by tourist Christopher Aitchison in May 2008 at Tantallon Castle, which sits on a rocky outcrop along the Scottish coast, east of Edinburgh. The "person" appears to be wearing an old-style greenish ruff around the neck.

Aitchison insists he did not tamper with the image and cannot explain it.
"I was not aware of anyone, or anything, being present in my picture, only noticing the anomaly when I got home," Aitchison said. "Staff have verified that there were no sinister dummies in period costume or historical reenactments going on that day at the castle. I did not notice any nice old ladies wearing ruffs walking around the stairs!"
The picture was made public Friday by Richard Wiseman, a professor of psychology at the University of Hertfordshire who also studies the paranormal. Wiseman said he was looking for "photographic evidence for ghosts" ahead of a session on the subject at the Edinburgh International Science Festival next week.
Wiseman solicited such photos from around the world and collated them for the conference. He said the majority of images showed mysterious-looking orbs, mists, figures and faces.

really cool pic of ghost!

You can't even properly make out that it's a ruff.
To me it looks like a man in green clothing.
Maybe my eye sight is rubbish but I personally think these guys are clutching at air.

It just looks like a normal person to me.

"Experts on the paranormal are scratching their heads over this image" LMAO, of course, scratch their heads to see how it can be twisted to be "paranormal".

It looks like a random person peering over the balcony. Maybe I should go, find someone dressed in odd clothes, have them stand on a balcony then take a photograph. That'd be paranormal!!!

Part of me sees how they thought this could be paranormal, my mind thinks that the person should be more in shadow where they are standing, and they don't look.... quite real to me. But perhaps I'm seeing what I want to.
I like the idea of the paranormal, but my rational side tells me, this is normal, sadly.

When I got passed the creepy, eerie feeling that picture gave me...I'm not so sure it is just a normal person. It might be, but it also might not be.

Not only that, look at the face of the figure in the window. It doesn't even have the texture of a human face as it hits the sunlight. More glossy, then anything.

You can't. It's all about belief, isn't it? You go by what logic is given, and what evidence is presented. I'm just stating what I see. I don't know if it's fake or not.

I agree with Zack, it does just look like smoke. However,

It reminds me of Happy Ghost, the ghost who haunts messy desktops!

I made Happy Ghost in about a minute to prove how easy it is to photoshop "ghosts". I could have made it look a lot more realistic, but I had better things to do. That castle picture has a certain fake quality about it.

Because it looks exactly like a plain old person looking down. Also, it goes by on what you believe, your paradigms that you use. If you use a paranormal paradigm, then obviously you're going to be biased and think something odd (or normal but you can call it odd) is paranormal. If it's a non-paranormal paradigm then for starters, you're less likely to conclude that it's paranormal.

The photograph looks like some dude smiling in a pile of rubbish with someone else blowing smoke or maybe it's just another case of photoshopping it. If you want to say that something is paranormal, then you have to prove that said image is paranormal. If you fail to prove it, then it can be assumed to be normal, or you produce an image in that same scene with smoke or photoshopping. Makes it a lot less believable to be paranormal, however, this is simply be using my non-paranormal paradigm whereas you can use your paradigm. The difference, however, is in the amount, type and quality of proof.
