What exactly are you interested about? I have been Wiccan for 7 years now? Kind of hard to keep track. If you are interested in reading a few books I know I can recommend some. Like Elements of Witchcraft: Natural Magick for Teens is a great beginner’s guide. And I know “teen” is included but don’t let that fool you. Ellen Dugan is an amazing Wiccan with several award winning books under her belt. I can recommend some more if you let me know what you are interested in.

I liked Teen Witch by Silver Ravenwolf.

I also suggest this wonderful site: http://www.religioustolerance.org/witchcra.htm

BTW, I had a Wicca phase. Atheist now, though.

Re: change of faith... - August 15th 2012, 05:35 PM

Well that narrows it slightly, but that is still a huge topic. The very basics would have to be that all Wiccans follow the wheel of the year which is the eight sabbats .

We believe that working with nature and its flow helps us in not only our everyday life but our eternal path as well. Each sabbat itself is celebrated in its own way, there is plenty of information you can find out about that via books. I can recommend some good ones if you are interested.
Outside of that we practice some general beliefs such as karma. Whatever we put into the world will effect it, either positively or negatively. We believe in the same “harm none, do as you will.” Which means that you are free to be yourself, which includes no judgment on anyone or anything as long as they are not harming another or themselves.
We believe in a God and Goddess. Wiccans believe that there is a masculine and feminine divine energy. This is one of our major differences to judeo Christian religions, the fact that we are polytheistic. We see that there is balance in the world, night/day, male/female, earth/water and we feel that two different but compatible energies must be the source of a world that is so diverse.
We believe in magic or magick, spelling varies. It’s a natural energy that flows through everyone one and everything and by using these properties we can better our lives. Spell work can be very easily compared to that of prayer. Talking to the divine and asking for help and guidance. Our only difference is that we also use magical properties to help us.
There is so much that goes into this faith, it’s kind of hard to get everything in. Basically Wicca is a lifestyle that teaches you not only how to be connected to nature, but how to be a better, more understanding individual.
There are a lot of different Wiccan paths; I highly suggest you start reading different things to try to get a feel if any of them are right for you. I see posted above that Silver Ravenwolf was recommend, in my opinion I am not a fan of her type of Wiccan practice. She is very different from the author that I posted above. There are so many different paths in Wicca, if I knew more about what you are interested in, it might help to point you in a direction.

Re: change of faith... - August 18th 2012, 02:52 AM

Honestly it is about whatever you want it to be. Its a year of self discovery and learning about the faith and what path you want to take. The year and a day study is named so because it is a year long. It is meant to give you plenty of time to start your path within Wicca, to learn all the sabbats, the phases of the moon and practicing different parts of the faith like spell work, divination, candle work, aromatherapy, so on and so forth. I know there are a few books dedicated just to the year and a day experience. And remember, this is not your dedication to the faith, its a trial and error, it is all about learning and discovery who you are and how you feel about life. If by the end of the year you feel confident in your decision then you can dedicate yourself at that time.

I think it is wonderful when people explore and learn about other faiths, let me know if you have anymore questions.
