Question Could you murder somebody? - September 15th 2012, 02:35 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

I think I could. It wouldn't be just any random person, it'd have to be somebody I really dislike, but I think I have the capability and know-how to be able to pull one off successfully.

How about y'all? I've included a poll for reference.

You a cop or something?

No, I could not murder someone, even if it was for a very good reason. I have threatened (but it's a joke) to kill someone for not doing something but that's the extent of it :/

Jay.

Yes. There are a number of people I would murder if I could or if they were not already dead.

Physically, I suppose I technically could. Easily.
And, I reckon that, apart from the fact that I've now posted this, I could also easily use my intuition to get away with it, even on a full scale murder enquiry.

But, morally (and moral values being more important to me than physical!), I would never, ever murder someone UNLESS it was going to cause a load more people to die or be badly affected if I wouldn't.

No. Not the type of person.

And no, this does not include all the life-in-danger exceptions. In those situations, things would be different, and I'd have to reconsider my answer.

I'm the same as Traci on this one. Life in danger situations are kind of an exception.

Probably because the question is 'could you do it'. So you can say no I couldn't but yes I want to.

Other: Currently, I couldn't murder anyone. But, there are times I imagine life without certain someones.

If someone hurt those closest to me, I could potentially murder them. If you consider that murder. Though, I'm not proud of my thinking on this matter.

No, I couldn't, either physically or morally. I guess if it was a matter of me dying if I didn't kill someone maybe, but that's self defense.

Never on purpose, but if it were a self-defense situation I would do whatever I had to to save myself.

Re: Could you murder somebody? - September 16th 2012, 01:30 AM

Yes, I could. I could easily access a gun and kill someone - IF AND ONLY IF (anyone remember that saying from their English class? :P ) one of my family members' or my life was being threatened. I don't ever want it to come down to that, but I could. I also know that it's something I would have to live with the rest of my life and probably couldn't forgive myself for it.
I believe God would forgive me for it, but I don't think I have the emotional capacity to live with myself for taking someone else's life. There would be some serious therapy afterward.

No. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I were to hurt another human being; regardless of who they are, what they did, etc. I mean, I'd seriously hurt someone if they injured a family member or close friend of mine.. but murdering someone is out of the question.

Re: Could you murder somebody? - September 16th 2012, 02:48 AM

I picked "other". Here's why:

Yes, I could, and a lot of the time I want to. I don't have any particular moral scruples regarding killing somebody I don't know. However, I don't really want to spend 20 or so years in jail, and I live in a small country, and my DNA is already on police record, so the chances of me getting caught, eventually, are very, very high. Therefore, unless I go completely batshit crazy at some point and lose all my inhibitions, the actual likelihood of me killing somebody is very, very low.

So yeah. Mind you, Ewan McDonald has basically gotten away with murder recently . . . because they couldn't prove it was him beyond a reasonable doubt, so he was acquitted - at least of that charge.

But yeah. That's my answer.

This is interesting to read. But, I have to ask: why would anyone actually ask this on a TeenHelp site? Is this helping ANYONE? This is kind of childish. Usually when someone posts something it is to gain insight or help on an issue. This wouldn't help anyone even the person behind the question...
This is just my personal opinion so don't bag me out for it but why WOULD anyone ask this. I may just ask the guy behind this.

Jay.

Right now no. I could never hurt someone and I hope that it always stays that way.

But I think everyone is capable of killing another person. I mean, if you spoke to every murderer out there, I feel sure that a lot of them wouldn't have been planning on killing someone in their future. But maybe if we're pushed to our limits by another person, if we're put in a unmanageable situation that drives us 'over the edge', whether we become mentally unwell and so on, I think we'd all be capable of murdering.

For those saying "in life or death situations I'd reconsider" that doesn't fit the definition of murder

Quote:
Murder : The unlawful, premeditated killing of one human being by another.
Murder is planned out. In a life or death situation even though some may call it murder it's legally manslaughter.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I could murder somebody but as other's have said I could kill somebody if I was threatened I think.

Based on the standard definition of murder, no - and nor would I want to. Dropping the hammer on someone is not something to be considered lightly or flippantly, and I'd be quite alarmed if people were all too willing to go ahead and do that.

Cold-blooded murder? I think I could under the right circumstances. There are some people that are just so fucking worthless and nothing but a cancer upon the Earth that I wouldn't mind if it weren't for the legal and social consequences of such an action. Given those considerations though, I'd never do it.

Out of self defense and nothing more. A situation where someone intends to inflict deadly force upon me or someone I love kind of pushes all moral crises out of the window.

I couldn't murder someone, no.
I could commit manslaughter.

To all those saying "yes, I could murder someone technically, but I don't have the intent to murder someone": that is not murder, that is manslaughter.

I was just prompting discussion, I don't think it's necessarilly childish at all. As you and a good few others have said it's an interesting thread (heh), so it's already proved worth it's space on the forum.

Not everything on this site is actually about teen help, ironically. The chit chat and current affairs subforums are good examples of that.

I suppose. I do write Crime fiction and I know different motives, how a killer thinks, etc etc.

I suppose, Self defence wise, sure. Manslaughter? I don't know anymore.

I would be fine doing so, and wouldn't feel any remorse, why should I care if they live or die, suffer, or feel joy?

Anyone saying they could possibly murder without serious psychological repercussions are kidding themselves, aside from genuine psychopaths. That being said, I could physically do it, but I'm certain psychologically I'd be traumatized and unable to live with myself afterwards. Though there's no one on this planet I hate enough to want to do anything even remotely close to murder.

If it were out of self defense I probably would cope much better and not really blame myself. Though taking a life would surely have a lasting impact regardless.

Self pity will not rescue you.
Sometimes we have to save our own lives,
not because no one else cares, but because no one else can.

Life for you has been less than kind
So take a number, stand in line
We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt
But how we survive is what makes us who we are.

Dreamed up the maps, give me the charcoal and the paper
We invent paths they cannot see, and they're too scared to walk

Only after disaster can we be resurrected. It's only after you've lost everything that you are free to do anything.

I wouldn't murder a person, but some times I swear the anger is there!

Ummm why we asking this? lol.... I'd have to say I'm in between. I don't want to say "yes" but then I don't want to say "no." I think murder is wrong, but I do tend to get some thoughts.

Okay then, since it's been cleared up, I might be capable of manslaughter, even though I think the guilt would be unbelievable and I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with it. Murder: Nope.

Take as long as you need.

OKay, I suppose I couldn't commit 1st degree murder, but -clears throat- I suppose I could probably kill someone when my rage piques. I knocked out a guy today :/ he made a sexist joke and I was just like shut the fuck up BANG....... Good thing is, NOT suspended!

Jay.
