Dreams and their meanings - December 23rd 2012, 08:10 PM

Does anybody believe that our dreams actually mean something? If not, what purpose do you believe dreaming has (if any)?

Re: Dreams and their meanings - December 23rd 2012, 08:56 PM

I think that dreaming allows us to let go of a lot of the things that we are holding onto in our subconscious and such as our fear of never measuring up, being alone for ever, and other things, not always bad things either Dreaming can be a pretty awesome thing but it can be a scary thing sometimes too.

I must admit, sometimes I wonder if dreams can be prophetic too. Like, there have been a few times that I have had dreams and then the same thing happened in real life. For example, I dreamed that both my brothers wives were going to get pregnant close to the same time and they did; I also dreamed it within a month or so of it happening. However, in the end I might have just been dreaming something that I knew was eventual because I knew both couples were determined to have a child and so it was in my subconscious mind waiting to come out in a dream.

I've heard there is a book written by Carl Jung "Dreams" and it is supposed to be his interpretation of dreams. Not sure if it is good or not since I haven't read it but thought I would suggest it. It is one of those book that is on my reading list and I'll read one day!

Anyway, these are my ramblings about dreams.

I believe dreams are manifestations of subconscious desires, so, in a sense, yes they mean something.

....can I just say, I love your sig lol

When you arise in the morning, think of what a precious privilege it is to be alive - to breathe, to think, to enjoy, to love.

Nope. I think the activation synthesis hypothesis has it pretty spot on.

I'm very supersticious, you can say, about dreams
As someone said above, some dreams are prophetical. I've had countless dreams where something happens in the dream and it happens exactly or similar in real life.
I also believe things in dreams can be interpreted. For example, I have many dreams of doors and houses and they usually mean a reflection of ones self and open opportunites.
Also, they can show what we feel in the subconcious. Once, I had consecutive dreams of my now boyfriend before I even realized and admitted to myself that I liked him, lighting me to reflect and sort out my feelings.
So yeah, I highly believe dreams are very important and mean lots to real life.

THERE IS NO SENTRY BECAUSE NONE DARE APPROACH
IT HAS NEVER BEEN AND IT IS ALL THAT EVER WAS
AT THE CENTER YOU DO NOT FIND THE ANSWER
YOU DO NOT FIND YOURSELF THERE IS NO CENTER AND THERE IS NO YOU THERE IS ONLY MADNESS
WE ARE ALL HERE NOW.
WE ARE ALL HERE.
WE ARE.

I think dreams do mean something, there's sites where you can look up all the key points in your dreams. I think all dreams mean something to an extent. I also think that dreams are your minds way of processing your thoughts through a way which makes you pay attention to them and that these then come out as dreams which we then remember and can't stop thinking about etc.

Most of my dreams consist of memories (usually bad ones), and fears or desires of mine. On occasion, I have "prophetic" dreams; however, that's probably pure coincidence. Yet sometimes, I have dreams that are messy and inconclusive. So yeah, I do believe that they mean something. What every single dream means exactly is beyond my understanding. I just feel like dreams are important to analyze to truly understand yourself. That's just me.

I do believe dreams definitely reflect your body's desires.
Like....... wet dreams of course, and when we were young, the bathroom thing.
Also, you can dream pain and anxiety. I dreamed about school and I didn't do my HW. I also dreamed about something painful... cause of a bite in my hand. I woke up an hour earlier cause of it.

Also, when I didn't talk to anyone outside of the house for a week, I dreamed about talking to strangers who were close friends.

Dreams are really awesome.

What lies ahead is unknown. However, in some times, I've sighted several smooth pavements. I myself am the mender of roads, and it is with these we work on.

I think our dreams are mainly a combination of fears, hopes, experiences/memories, and things we should know but are denying to ourselves or don't want to believe.

Dreaming is an evolutionary process. The mind creates various scenarios when dreaming in order to create various responses. In other words, the mind creates absurd scenarios in order that it knows how to respond IF that occurrence happens. That's why we have recurring dreams, your brain is trying to find out a better scenario, a better response, in order for progress. So they do have meaning, but not supernatural meaning.
