Hypnosis? - February 1st 2017, 04:17 AM

I'm not sure I this fits in this category, but I figured it involves science. So recently I came across hypnosis or subliminals on YouTube which claim to change your image. I find that people have very strong arguments as to why this doesn't work. Such as you're born with what you have, its permanent, it has to do with pigmentation and DNA and such. But people have showed significant results from subliminals. I don't think this would be a placebo effect because a lot of people don't rrakky believed in what they're trying. Looking into how subliminals work it does make a bit of sense. I'm sure there are fake subliminals, but if very YouTube channel was faking this I think people would catch on. I've personally never tried it but might just to see what happens. Any opinions?

Do you mean as in changing their physical appearance? I have never heard of hypnosis doing that.

I have only heard of hypnosis in a clinical setting (which has actual therapeutic merit) as well as the fun, show hypnosis performed on a stage. I have never heard of it being used to help someone change their physical appearance. Perhaps you can link us to an article so we can read more about it?

The physical alteration stuff is VERY unlikely, bordering on impossible.

But hypnosis can be used to a good degree in improving how you feel. I used it at such, to help with my anxiety and sleeping issues, and it did work to some degree.

The risk I took was calculated, but boy, am I bad at math.

I guess I should have said subliminal, not hypnosis. My bad.

The only thing I can assume that is going on with these people (besides the obvious answer of them lying about their results) is that they are tricking themselves to believe something doesn't exist. Much like when you tell a particular lie too much, you start to believe it yourself. "I have blue eyes, I have blue eyes, I have blue eyes..." on and on for months or even years... when someone asks what color eyes you have there is a good chance you will respond with "blue".

Now if they are showing pictures of eyes changing colors, this happens naturally. A lot of peoples eyes look different in different lighting, at different points of the day, when they are not feeling well. It something that could easily be manipulated as "changing at will" when it is really reflecting back differently naturally.

However, there is no way to permanently change your eye color without some sort of surgery. Pigment can not be changed through thought alone.
