Buddhism - June 16th 2018, 03:43 PM

Hey all,

I am currently an atheist and I was looking into secular Buddhism -- as I don't relate to any of the spiritual aspects... but I like the general philosophy and the mindset seems to bring a lot of peace.

I was thinking about visiting a local temple. What should I expect? Dress code? Community? Can I discuss things with the monks? Is it just for meditation and prayer? Also, are there any additional resource that anyone recommends to learn wholly about Buddhism but without the spirituality stuff? I'm fine if it contains some spiritual stuff, but I'd prefer it to be grounded in the physical -- not metaphysical.

I don't suppose the local temple has a website or social media channels that you could check out and maybe even contact to ask your questions?

I don't know anything about Buddhism, but I did visit a Hindu temple years ago on a school trip. There wasn't a dress code, but we did have to take our shoes off before we went into the temple.

Other than that, I don't have much advice, I'm afraid. I imagine that if you are interested in learning more about Buddhism, someone there should be either happy to help or point you in the direction of where you can learn more.

Hope others can give you more insight!

Buddhism is okay. It keeps you peaceful because you have to meditate.
