How to tell people I'm atheist?

I'm an atheist, but I've been pretending to be Catholic for years now, and I really just need to get this weight off of my shoulders. But I don't know how to do it. The people I hang out with and my family are very rligious, and I'm just....not. How do I break the news to my friends, and how do I go about telling my family? I'm worried they are all going to judge me and look down on me.

I found coming out as agnostic hard in a not to religious household. My mum was shocked but said I should make my own decisions... Tell your friends first... in general friends are more supportive... Be prepared to tell them why but try not to make too big a deal about it. Then tell your parents in the way you told your friends... if there are any catholic beliefs you agree with let them no it... but I guess you just have to take a deep breath and say it, straight to the point. Let them know it's how you feel and definately let them know why. Don't be affraid to talk about it and remember if they are cross at first it's just because of the shock and should hopefully come round. You may still have to go to church etc... but at least you will be telling the truth
