Meditation - January 19th 2012, 12:31 AM

Let me start by saying that I am Buddhist. I just recently started truly meditating, clearing my mind of all distractions and random thoughts. I'm honestly surprised how much this has done for me. I've stopped over thinking everything and seem to be calmer and more relaxed about everything and others, even those I don't like. I'm not thinking about the reasons why I don't like them and so no longer have a reason to dislike them (if that makes sense). I can stay more in the moment and enjoy the smallest things.

I was curious if anyone else here meditates and what your experiences are.

I've tried, but I'm not very good at it yet. I took a self-defense class my last semester of college which seemed to have that effect on me though.

It's interesting how different systems exist even among the same beliefs. I practice conscious breathing. It's simple and helps a lot.

I've meditated before, and it really calmed me down. My only problem is that I keep thinking about how stupid and cliché I must look so I can't keep myself from laughing.

I meditate after doing some yoga. I don't take it too seriously, but it really calms me down and helps me face the day/get to sleep. I find that it gets a lot better with practise. :-)

Yes it really helps and as for looking cliche you should realize you can meditate just by sitting still and closing your eyes or even having them open. People don't even realize I'm doing it at times. (Sorry for the late responses I don't have internet all the time)
