What is a prayer meeting?

Basically i'm just wondering is it where you get together with a group of people a pray for hours at a time? Or do you like talk about whatever your praying for? Example: Recently this guy that lives around me was in a bad car accident. Many broken bones, and brain damage. He was a senior in high-school, and the whole community was torn apart from the tragedy. His friends and family where forming private prayer meetings, as well as the church. So my question. Is a prayer meeting where you spend hours praying, or do you actually have like a group therapy session sort of thing too? Like where you can talk about it and tell eachother how you feel about it?

It's kind of a little bit of both. People can come together and discuss the things that they would like others to pray about for them. After everyone has had a chance to share, people will pray as a group for everyone's needs. But, in the case of your neighbor, I think the prayer meeting was held only for prayers in regards to his healing.

It really depends on the group that you are going to. Some groups are strictly prayer, while others have discussions too. My church has prayer meetings every Sunday, but it's the same time as youth group (I'm a youth leader), so I haven't gotten to go and see what it's like.

Well my church had prayer meetings where people would meet up, discuss things they wanted prayers for, then pray for them. It usually took like a half hour or more, depending on how many people were there & how much they discussed what was going on.
