mother may i? - January 7th 2015, 01:18 AM

This thread has been labeled as triggering by the original poster or by a Moderator. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the children's game called "mother may i?" this is a link to refer to.

Mother may I?
Mother May I borrow a pen?
My feet may be shackled, but
I do not need footsteps to escape.
Mother May I have some rest?
My mind is switched on chaos mode
I get that you need things done but I really need time
Mother...I need to breathe.
The shelter you built under your wing, is
Choking me to death, please
Loosen your grip
Mother May I take the garbage out?
Instead of doing homebound chores
I haven't gone outside for four weeks straight.
I want to feel the wind on my face, and
my cheeks turn pink,
it makes me feel alive
Mother, I won't leave you
You don't need to guilt trip me into captivity, to
keep me here,
If you just let me go, I'll return, you trust me right?
But after all this, you'll end up leaving me crippled.
just in case I ran away on my own.
Mother there's a whole world out there and I'm stuck here,
Alone and afraid
the person who was supposed to show me the world had installed bars at my window, and
painted the walls black.
Mother please listen to me, I'm not saying this to accuse you or upset you. I'm not saying this to stir up trouble. I'm just saying it because it's the truth and I need your understanding. Only understanding can bring change.
Mother, please don't turn away when I call out to you. We have to fight together against the common enemy. We have to keep going strong.
But I'm not the enemy here, right?
( Or am I? )
Mother, yelling is distancing us, but I still tried to hear you. I wonder if you still tried to hear me when I yelled.
Mother, silence is killing me slowly. Your silence is so loud it is drowning out my voice.
Mother may I cry? The tears are begging to come out but you don't like when I cry. I'm going to burst.
Even my blankets turned against me, nothing keeps me warm any longer
Nothing to hold onto
I'm like you now, I noticed how I squeeze myself in pain, just like how you squeeze me
Mother, I want to be free,
We can be free together, right?
Who said we had to trample on each other to survive?*
I thought you'd be proud of me when I finally tried to take charge of my life. But taking charge meant taking charge away from you. It meant stop putting my life on hold just to please you.
Mother, I might have to leave if you hurt me again, but
Mother, don't leave me like this,
I still love you

I love how you asked that question in the middle of it.

Repetition + rhetorical questions = a killer combination. I love how this told a story, with all the conflicting emotions and inner turmoil. Absolutely amazing.

Thank you everyone
On a side note, Kimmy your signature really shows a random cat like I refreshed the page because the internet was lagging and a new cat appeared
