Living like a flame


A flash
Of heat. A tiny spark
Gone before you’re sure it’s
Real.

Then it blossoms
Growing upwards
Into a flame.

Life.
Like a fire
Which sparks and catches,
Grows and burns a
Steady flame, before
Snuffing itself out.

Leaving a grave
Scattered in ash.

What’s in a life? Does it begin
With a soul, and end
In the absence of one?

What’s in a soul? Minus
The myth. It’s just the spark
That starts life.

Embers die into ash.
Who’s to say whether we
Rise up again. Or whether
There is an everlasting inferno
Waiting for us.

Life
Like a fire
Which can burn away
The good. Or the bad.
Or everything
In it’s
Path.

It was free verse but it still flowed very well, which in my opinion is kind of hard to do.
